Itching

Its purpose is twofold first of all to prevent any particles of the analysis sample, which is to be added next, from percolating through the coarse porous w ire-form " copper oxide and so into that portion of the tube heated by the furnace and secondly as a heat insulator, to present the sample being heated too rapidly by the nearby furnace. Both these safeguards are required, as otherwise some portion of the sample would be decomposed as soon as the furnace was sw-itched on the nitrogen so produced would be carried away during the initial sweeping of the air out of the tube with the carbon dioxide stream, and would not be collected. Low results w ould thus be obtained.

The disease takes two different forms depending apparently on whether ergotoxia, the alkaloid ia ergot, attacks predomiaantiy the aervous or the circulatory system. The former coaditioa is characterized by severe coavulsive seizures the latter produces an iatense burning and itching of the skin called St. Anthony s Fire. 

Repeated exposures to acryhc monomers can produce allergic dermatitis (or skin sensitization) resulting in rash, itching, or sweUing. After exposure to one monomer, this dermatitis may arise upon subsequent exposure to the same or even a different acryhc monomer. 

Atopic Dermatitis. The mechanism of itching associated with atopic dermatitis remains unknown, but histamine is almost certainly involved to some extent as histamine concentrations are increased in the skin and in the plasma of patients with this disorder (39,42). Second-generation H receptor antagonists, unlike first-generation H receptor antagonists, have not been uniformly found to be effective in relieving itching in atopic dermatitis, which may be related to the absence of a sedative effect (43). 

Rhinitis is characterized by nasal stuffiness with partial or full obstmction, and itching of the nose, eyes, palate, or pharynx, sneezing, and rhinorrhoea. If left untreated it can lead to more serious respiratory diseases such as sinusitis or asthma. Although several types of dmgs are available for treatment, nasal spray topical corticosteroids are widely regarded as the reference standard in rhinitis therapy (250). 

Bacitracin given parenteraHy is sufftciendy nephrotoxic that it is rarely used in human medicine for other than topical indications (80). Thus safe and effective use, especially as the zinc salt, is limited almost completely to ointments, sprays, and solutions for skin and ophthalmic use in concentrations of 250 to 1000 units per milliliter. Bacitracin is only rarely skin sensitizing. As in the case of polymyxin, bacitracin is usually combined with other antibiotics to enlarge its spectmm of activity, or with corticoids or analgesics to reUeve pain or itching. 

Skin Irritation. Fine broken filaments often irritate the skin, occasionally causing transient itching and rashes. The back of hands and wrists and neck areas tend to be most sensitive. Protective clothing and barrier skin creams help prevent the fiber from reaching the skin and causing discomfort. 

Nole In both the above case.s. which are almost similar, so far as the sw itching heats of the stator or the rotor are concertied, the overcurrent protection (noted at serial no. 4) is redundant, as its time constant is much higher (of the order of several minutes) compared to the temperature rise, particularly of the rotor, which is linear and much more rapid under such conditions. Therefore, such protection saves the machine from excessive thermal stresses.
