Perianal itching

Ancylostoma (hookworm—intestinal ulcerations, lung lesions) Enterobius (pinworm—perianal itching)... 

Night-time perianal itching, which may be intense and lead to insomnia and irritability. 

In adults, perianal itching may be due to irritation by deodorants, tight nylon underwear, haemorrhoids or perianal eczema.

Large doses of mineral oil may cause anal seepage, resulting in itching (pruritus ani), irritation, hemorrhoids, and perianal discomfort. 

Local anaesthetics are included in haemorrhoidal preparations to relieve pain, burning and itching. Use should be restricted to the perianal region and lower anal canal they should not be used in the rectum as there is little sensory tissue there and the anaesthetic can be readily absorbed through the rectal mucosa to cause potentially toxic systemic effects. Local anaesthetics are also absorbed through damaged skin. 

Wash the perianal area frequently with warm water and a mild soap, or use toilet wipes, to reduce itching.
