Acid invertase and UDP-glucose phosphoiylase appear to be especially important components of the carbohydrate metabolism pathway as it relates to the accumulation of reducing sugars. The biosynthesis in yeast of two enzymes that are D-mannoproteins has been studied. A membrane-associated isozyme of invertase (EC 3.2.1.26) has been shown to be a precursor of the external invertase.190 Its molecular weight, as determined by SDS-poly(acrylamide) gel electrophoresis, is 50,000, that is, smaller than that of the external invertase, and it correlates well with the presence of only the inner-core sugars of the final form. It is strictly bound to membranes, possibly those of the endoplasmic reticulum, and it can be completely split191 by endo-/3-N-acetylglucosaminidase H (EC 3.2.1.30). The addition of tunicamycin, which specifically inhibits formation of d-GIcNAc-PP-DoI, inhibits synthesis of external invertase, as well as further formation of the membrane-associated form, which completely disappears after addition of the antibiotic.190 In these aspects, the synthesis of this extracellular enzyme follows the pathway for secreted glycoproteins in animal systems.

The study of organic solvent effect on the activity of the invertase enzyme was studied previously [4]. We have shown that after 45 min of contact between the two phases, aqueous one containing invertase and the organic one (toluene or benzene), the solvent did not affect the initial activity of the enzyme. It has been observed after this period that the enzyme response remains the same. 

Many reports are presented in the text confirming the effect of HS on both protein synthesis and enzyme activity. HS influence the production of various enzymes—for example, catalase, cytochrome, invertase, and peroxidase (Vaughan et al., 1974a). The use of inhibitors of protein synthesis provides strong evidence in favor of the notion that HA stimulates de novo synthesis of invertase and peroxidase (Vaughan and Malcolm, 1979a). Meanwhile, HA were reported to have no effect on the synthesis of phosphatise thus it influences only some aspects of protein synthesis, and this most likely operates via the formation of new m-RNA.
