The system was built on a Microsoft Windows NT server platform, by a Microsoft Internet Information Server and browsed by a Microsoft hitemet Explorer. The database is a Microsoft SQL server but the information can be integrated into other legacy databases. The main program for displaying further applications is EQOS Administrator which has been developed by using Microsoft Visual Basic and e-commerce functionahty.

File Transfer Protocol. A protocol used to move files over the Internet. Typically, you use a command line command, browser capability, or program on your computer called an FTP client to connect to an FTP server found on the Internet. Metabolic databases serve as online reference sources making metabolic information readily accessible via the Internet. These databases typically describe collections of enzymes, reactions, and biochemical pathways with pointers to genetic, sequence, and structural servers. Table 8.2 lists some of metabolic databases.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) FTP is used to transfer large files across the Internet or any TCP/IP network. Special servers, called FTP servers, store information and then transfer it back to FTP clients as needed. FTP servers can also be secured with a username and password to prevent unauthorized downloading (retrieval of a file from the server) or uploading (placing of a file on the server).
