The Metrication Committee plans to submit a series of articles to CEP at two or three month intervals that will deal with various aspects of metric conversion. These are planned to include a typical process flow diagram in SI, a consideration of hard vs. soft conversion, consideration of conversion of various physical properties into SI, case histories of conversion in various industries and companies, and a description of the working of the International Standards Organizations. [Pg.480]

The integrator platform is intended to be used for Comos PT related data integration, e.g. for keeping simulation models and process flow diagrams consistent. This comprises internal data as well as external data sources. The integrator platform has to fulfill all requirements on integration tools as proposed in Subsect. 3.2.1. The key requirements are ... [Pg.700]

The fluidized bed processes operate between 220-235 °C (430-455 F) and from 20-75 psig. The reaction is exothermic and the heat of reaction is removed by generating steam in internal coils in the reactor. Ethylene and HCl react quantitatively to EDC. A small amount of ethylene is oxidized to carbon oxides and some chlorinated hydrocarbon by-products are formed. About l-2< 7o of the ethylene feed to the reactor leaves unreacted in the vent gas from the system. A simplified process flow diagram depicting an air-based fluidized bed oxychlorination system is shown in Figure 14 [22]. [Pg.173]

In this section a brief summary of the most general form of Bernoulli s equation for steady incompressible flows is introduced. Bernoulli s equation is composed of kinetic energy, potential energy, and internal energy. The energy equation is written between the inlet at point 1 and the exit of the pipeline at point 2 (Figure 2.1). The process flow diagram (PFD) represents sudden contraction (the exit of the first tank to the inlet of pipe 1), two 90° elbows, and sudden expansion (the exit of pipe 4 and the inlet of the second tank). [Pg.39]

The compressor can be driven by electric motors, gas or steam turbiaes, or internal combustion (usually diesel) engines. The compressor can also be a steam-driven ejector (Fig. 7b), which improves plant reUabiUty because of its simplicity and absence of moving parts, but also reduces its efficiency because an ejector is less efficient than a mechanical compressor. In all of the therm ally driven devices, turbiaes, engines, and the ejector mentioned hereia, the exhaust heat can be used for process efficiency improvement, or for desalination by an additional distillation plant. Figure 8 shows a flow diagram of the vertical-tube vapor compression process. [Pg.246]

A typical EBOne plant flow diagram is shown in Fig. 4. The alkylation reactor is maintained in the liquid phase and uses multiple catalyst beds and ethylene injections to improve the reaction selectivity. Dividing the ethylene into multiple feed streams keeps the alkylation catalyst deactivation rate very low. In some plants using EBZ-500 catalyst, operating lengths of more than 8 yr have been obtained without catalyst regeneration. The ethylene conversion is essentially 100% in the alkylation reactors, and the reactors operate nearly adiabatically. The exothermic heat of reaction is recovered and used within the process to heat internal process streams or to generate steam. [Pg.935]
