Internal neutralization

From experience in metalworking applications it is known that ether carboxylates may improve the existing corrosion protection of formulations [66]. From pKj studies described by Aalbers [49], an internal neutralization of the ether carboxylate micelles can be concluded resulting in less anionic character than, for example, alkyl sulfates therefore also combination with quats are possible without any problem. [Pg.323]

Being internally neutralized, the amphoterics have minimal impact on the biocidal activity of quaternary ammonium salts. For this reason, like the nonionics, they often find use in antimicrobial preparations that are based on cationic surfactants. [Pg.170]

N-alkyl (3-alanine derivatives, the monopropionates , have distinct isoelectric points while most other amphoteric surfactants do not. The isoelectric point is the pH at which the molecule is internally neutralized, existing as a zwitterion. Aqueous solubility and the propensity to foam are lowest at the isoelectric point. [Pg.170]

A disadvantage of the photochemical approach is that soluble polymers are needed in order to obtain sufficient light penetration. A consequence of this could be that the final resin is composed of flexible chains, which may then result in unsatisfactorily high degrees of internal neutralization. [Pg.109]

It is evident from Table 15 that the thermally regenerable capacity of 2.1 meq/g, which is theoretically feasible in the absence of any internal neutralization, is achieved only when crosslinked poly(ethyl acrylate) microparticles are encapsulated in a crosslinked poly(diallylamine hydrochloride) matrix). The resins synthesized by other routes have capacities less than 2.1 meq/g, indicating that internal neutralization could not be avoided completely. [Pg.111]

Formaldehyde Method of Sorensen. — This method, which can serve just as well for determining amino-acids as for determining the degree of hydrolysis of protein material, is based on the following prindple If, to a solution of an amino-acid, neutral from the fact of internal neutralization of the acid COjH by the basic NHa, formaldehyde, likewise neutral, is. added, the latter, reacting on the amino group, removes this basic function and the solution immediately becomes add. For example, in the case of glydn. [Pg.322]

CH acidities of sulfonium and phosphonium salts are in the range accessible for the PTC so they can be deprotonated in liquid-liquid and liquid-solid two-phase systems. Since in the generated ylides the charges are internally neutralized the PT catalysts suppl3dng lipophilic cations are not necessary for transfer of the reacting species into the organic phase. Nevertheless in many cases of the reactions of sulfonium and phosphonium ylides, PT catalyst was used and recommended. Thus in two-phase systems with or without catalyst, an efficient synthesis of oxiranes via reactions of sulfonium ylides with aldehydes is executed (eqs. 66 and 67). [Pg.1841]

Davies stressed the importance of an adequate supply of carbon dioxide for optimal secretion for the reason that some investigators, notably myself, performed similar experiments in which tied sacs of mucosa were incubated in phosphate-buffered salt solution with no carbon dioxide in the gas phase. Davies allowed that in such an experimental situation, carbon dioxide produced by the tissue s metabolism could be recycled so that phosphate could become the ultimate determinant of the oxyntic cells internal neutrality, but he repeatedly asserted that the gastric mucosa does not secrete acid at its maximal rate in the absence of exogenous carbon dioxide. [Pg.48]

Stage 1 Minimize manufacturing s negative potential internally neutral manufacturing is kept flexible and reactive. [Pg.119]
