Interior Components

Engineering design with polymers starts with stiffness. But strength is also important, sometimes overridingly so. A plastic chair need not be very stiff - it may be more comfortable if it is a bit flexible - but it must not collapse plastically, or fail in a brittle manner, when sat upon. There are numerous examples of the use of polymers (luggage, casings of appliances, interior components for automobiles) where strength, not stiffness, is the major consideration. [Pg.248]

Blends consisting of poly(4-phenylene ether) and nylon-66 were prepared by Miyoshi et al. (2) and used to prepare automotive interior components. Extruder conditions were virtually identical to those described in step 2. [Pg.199]

The existing test stand method and the standardized analytical process are powerful routine methods for delivering a reliable characterization of emissions in automobile interiors. The effects on the IAQ of changes in the interior furnishing can be followed precisely. When combined with emission-chamber measurements of single parts of the interior, components can be constantly improved and the quality of the materials for interior furnishings secured (Bauhof et ai, 1996 VDA, 2005). [Pg.161]

The notation Wtl defines a Wronskian integral over ct/2. By the surface matching theorem, xm = X> the interior component of 4> Since 4r is a solution of the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, this implies xout = Xm when evaluated in the interior of Tjj. This is a particular statement of the tail-cancellation condition. To show this in detail, after integration by parts... [Pg.103]

Over the past decade, automotive supplier parks have proliferated in South America and Europe as automakers pursue a manufacturing value chain that is as lean and efficient as possible. That trend has recently aslo gained popularity in North America. Ford Motor Company launched its first North American supplier park in Chicago in 2004, where painted exterior and interior components will be produced. Chrysler is planning a supplier co-location project at the Jeep Toledo North Assembly plant, where painted vehicle body and the chassis module will be sent on conveyer lines directly into the Chrysler Group s final assembly building. [Pg.1295]

High heat ABS resins described in this chapter refer to a family of multiphase polymers which are dimensionally stable at temperatures where conventional, general-purpose ABS deforms. The maximum end-use temperature at which fabricated parts can meet the functional requirements of the specific application determines whether high heat resistant ABS or conventional ABS will be used. Typical applications for high heat ABS are automotive interior components that can be exposed to temperatures of more than 90 °C. Conventional ABS warps unacceptably in that environment. [Pg.323]

The ARMBRUST construction info has been divided into three parts the launch tube, the grip assembly, and the last part covering the interior components, the projectile, countermass and propellant. [Pg.139]

Noble gases and nitrogen in martian meteorites reveal several interior components having isotopic compositions different from those of the atmosphere. Xenon, krypton, and probably argon in the mantle components have solar isotopic compositions, rather than those measured in chondrites. However, ratios of these noble gas abundances are strongly fractionated relative to solar abundances. This decoupling of elemental and isotopic fractionation is not understood. The interior ratio in martian meteorites is similar to chondrites. [Pg.608]

Esters of trimellitic (1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid) anhydride provide excellent resistance to volatile loss and oxidation under heat ageing conditions making them the material of choice in applications for which high-temperature thermal stability is required. Insulation for automotive and aircraft cables are typical areas of application. The low volatility of trimellitates is also exploited in car interior components. [Pg.122]

The highest Xe/ Xe in ALH84001 is about 2.16, 10% lower than measured in the glasses in the shergottites. In addition, the Xe/ Xe/ Xe systematics are not consistent with a combination of current Martian atmosphere, a Martian interior component like that identified in Chassigny, and terrestrial contamination. On this basis, the Xe has been argued to be an ancient component, rather than modem atmosphere (Gilmour et al. 1998 Mathew and Marti 2001 Murty and Mohapatra 1997). [Pg.183]

PCs are processed by conventional injection molding and extrusion. The impact resistance of molded or extruded PCs is decreased when they are exposed to solvents which tend to craze these plastics. Considerable care must be exercised in the extrusion process in order to obtain impact-resistant PC sheets. PCs are used for interior components of aircraft, household appliances,... [Pg.198]

PPO -based resins, for example, NORYL , have many industrial uses, namely, computer and business machine housings, fluid handling and water pump housings, structural and interior components in electrical/electronic devices, automotive underhood components and instrument panels, microwave-able food packaging, telecommunications, appliances and housewares, building and construction, frames, and ventilating parts. [Pg.98]

There is a lot of competition among plastics manufacturers for car interior components although, however, this area is not expected to show much growth [26,27]. ABS plastics continue to dominate the instrument panel market, while newer materials like Dow Chemical s pulse PC/ABS and Bayer s Bayblend PC/ABS alloys have been introduced for use in dashboard housings, interior mirror surrounds, and steering column covers. The alloy s high heat stability allows pigmentation in pastel colors. [Pg.771]

Arco Chemical s line of Arpro expanded PP and Arpak expanded PE bead resins are used for the interior components. Polyolefin foams provide a higher degree of chemical resistance, heat resistance, and cushioning as compared to foamed polystyrene. Potential applications include seat backs, head rests, and other critical energy-absorbing areas. [Pg.771]
