Interim spent fuel storage facility

This group of characteristics specifies on-site facilities designed to contain the spent fuel assemblies discharged from the reactor. Basically, there can be two types of spent fuel storage facilities available on site to the unit a spent fuel pool and an interim spent fuel storage facility. The spent fuel pool is usually located in the containment or in the reactor building next to the reactor to facilitate the transport of fuel from the reactor to the pool by a refuelling machine.
