Regional Distribution Centres

Evesham is a chilled depot of approximately 20,000 square feet situated in the Vale of Evesham in Worcestershire, which is one of the major produce growing areas in the UK. It has a staffing level of 94 and nearly half of them are qualified reefer vehicle drivers. It is a stockless depot for cross docking operation under temperature controlled conditions. The main function of the depot is to act as a consolidator of suppliers produce and chill products received fiom various parts of the country, for subsequent onward despatch to the majority of the UK and Irish Regional Distribution Centres. It is a stockless depot for cross docking operation. [Pg.135]

Logistics by its very nature tends to be fixed asset intensive . Trucks, distribution centres and automated handling systems involve considerable investment and, consequently, will often depress return on investment. In conventional multi-echelon distribution systems, it is not unusual to find factory warehouses, regional distribution centres and local depots, all of which represent significant fixed investment. [Pg.64]

Here, milk is produced by a dairy cooperative and shipped to a cheese factory. Once made, the cheese is shipped to the manufacturer s national distribution centre (NDC), where it is stored and matured for nine months. It can then be shipped in response to an order from the retailer, and is transported first to the retailer s regional distribution centre (RDC). From there, it is shipped to store. Looking at the arrows in Figure 1.1, material flows from left to right. Information is shared across the chain it is demand from the end-customer that makes the whole chain work. [Pg.8]

The solution was to create a dedicated promotions team within the categories. The team masterminded the overall promotional plan and were made responsible for the delivery of products, display aids and show materials into the national distribution centres (NDCs). A successful trial was then conducted whereby most of the work required to mount the promotion was done by logistics staff in the regional distribution centres (RDCs) for each of the individual stores. [Pg.38]

Distribution the product is shipped by container to the retailer s national distribution centre (NDC). Here, store orders are cross-docked using the bar-code to identify the destination store. They are then forwarded to regional distribution centres (RDCs) that serve 50-100 stores. [Pg.241]

In France, wood for cooperage comes primarily from forests located in four main regions (Limousin, Centre, Bourgogne (Burgundy) and Vosges). Two species are unevenly distributed in these regions ... [Pg.416]

The velocity distribution and frictional resistance have been calculated from purely theoretical considerations for the streamline flow of a fluid in a pipe. The boundary layer theory can now be applied in order to calculate, approximately, the conditions when the fluid is turbulent. For this purpose it is assumed that the boundary layer expressions may be applied to flow over a cylindrical surface and that the flow conditions in the region of fully developed flow are the same as those when the boundary layers first join. The thickness of the boundary layer is thus taken to be equal to the radius of the pipe and the velocity at the outer edge of the boundary layer is assumed to be the velocity at the axis. Such assumptions are valid very close to the walls, although significant errors will arise near the centre of the pipe. [Pg.682]

The Aspen Properties implementation of the NRLT-SAC method is available as a template. aprbkp file to license holders of Aspen Properties or Aspen Plus release 12.1 or above, by contacting Aspen s support centre or regional sales offices. The template is distributed with an Excel interface to simplify the data regression process and is suitable for non-expert users of Aspen Properties. Numerous Excel templates are available for data analysis and design calculations, based on the NRTL-SAC model. [Pg.59]

Handley fluidised soda glass particles using methyl benzoate, and obtained data on the flow pattern of the solids and the distribution of vertical velocity components of the particles. It was found that a bulk circulation of solids was superimposed on their random movement. Particles normally tended to move upwards in the centre of the bed and downwards at the walls, following a circulation pattern which was less marked in regions remote from the distributor. [Pg.313]
