Medical Programs. Large chemical plants have at least one hill-time physician who is at the plant five days a week and on call at all other times. Smaller plants either have part-time physicians or take injured employees to a nearby hospital or clinic by arrangement with the company compensation-insurance carrier. When part-time physicians or outside medical services are used, there is Httle opportunity for medical personnel to become familiar with plant operations or to assist in improving the health aspects of plant work. Therefore, it is essential that chemical-ha2ards manuals and procedures, which highlight symptoms and methods of treatment, be developed. A hill-time industrial physician should devote a substantial amount of time to becoming familiar with the plant, its processes, and the materials employed. Such education enables the physician to be better prepared to treat injuries and illnesses and to advise on preventive measures. [Pg.101]

The European Commission has proposed three directives to regnlate the employment of part-time and temporary employees. These include giving part-time workers a pro rata right to hohday, seniority and dismissal allowances. They would also have the right to pro rata treatment in respect of pensions and sick pay, as well as access to any social services and training provided by the employer. It also proposed that part-time employees who work at least eight hours per week should come within the National Insurance scheme, regardless of how little they earn. [Pg.174]

Whenever possible, the number of workers should be ascertained on the average in relation to the 12 months of a year. The figures of part-time employees should be converted correspondingly and expressed in terms of fulltime employment. The West German insurance system rests on a 1,000-man-rate regulation scheme. This value encompasses the number of insured persons and the work hours per employee within one year. The reference value of 2,000 work hours per year is readjusted every year depending on the work conditions. [Pg.22]

No matter what a job demands, I am willing to learn whatever is needed to succeed in that position. Unlike many of my peers in auto insurance, I entered the field with little knowledge of motor vehicles, repair techniques, or claims adjusting. And yet, I have advanced in this field very rapidly. Currently, I am the second-fastest adjuster in my office at Safe Auto Insurance (out of 15). I credit my success, in part, to my ability to learn and apply new information quickly. I consistently completed training courses at the top of the class. I also sought out mentors, spent time before and afler work asking questions, and practiced my auto adjusting skills. [Pg.200]
