Installation appraisal A qualitative appraisal of the integrity and safety of the installation. Any deviations from normal industry-accepted installation practices should be evaluated [23.1309E]. 

A collective term for the various methods of assessing causes, severities, and likelihood of potential failure conditions. Typical types of analysis include design appraisal, installation appraisal, FMEA, FTA, DD, reliability block diagrams, etc. 

If the complexity of the system is low, and the system is similar in its relevant attributes to those used in other aeroplanes and the effects of failure would be the same, then design and installation appraisals, and satisfactory service... 

As discussed in paragraphs (1) and (2) compliance for a system or part thereof that is not complex may sometimes be shown by design and installation appraisals and evidence of satisfactoryservice experience on other aeroplanes using the same or other systems that are similar in their relevant attributes. 

Some measurements were taken to appraise the intensity of irradiation along the length of the chute. These are shown in the graph at the bottom of Figure 1. The intensity is more uniform than might be expected. However, the data are incomplete since the whole length was not examined. It was expected that a commercial installation will have quite different geometry, and therefore, its distribution will be more relevant.

The steel industry in the United States has not yet installed the equipment necessary to fabricate the new large diameter (over 42" O.D.) line pipe being specified for many major line pipe projects. On the other hand, Canada, Japan, West Germany and Italy are well equipped to produce the pipe and are expected to be the major recipients of line pipe orders. As a result, increasing demand for vanadium in the United States is expected to be modest and, in the absence of other major developments, such as automotive HSLA use, will remain at 3% per year through 1980. The potential application of HSLA steels to automobile bumpers, frames, engine mounts, etc., could increase United States vanadium consumption by 10-15% or 1 to 1.5 million pounds per year. However, competition from other materials precludes an accurate appraisal at this time. 

Medical assessment and provision of safety in technology is put into practice, first and foremost, by specialists in the independent appraisal of design materials and in building and restoration of different plants and installations (for instance, MOX-fuel production, fissile material storage). In this case, the ultimate decision on design feasibility is made by the RF State Sanitary Inspection Service. 

The task of reviewing the blueprints was neither easy, nor pleasant. The installations shown in the prints were interconnected, not only physically but also functionally. There have been a number of recent and well publicised accidents in which human error has played a prominent part. At Three Mile Island a combination of poor display design, bad maintenance and operator error led to the reactor core becoming uncovered and the release of radioactivity into the atmosphere. At the Ekofisk oil field incident a blowout preventer was installed upside down which resulted in an accident, following which widespread environmental pollution ensued. In both these cases the overall losses have been estimated in tens and hundreds of millions of pounds. These and similar incidents have brought sharply into focus the need to include an appraisal of human reliability and the factors which affect it when considering the safety performance of both large and small scale systems of work. ...
