The present PE and polypropylene prices still do not allow for acceptable margins under the current market conditions. Based on this situation, Dow Plastics announced a price increase in Europe of 100 per metric tonne above January 2003 pricing levels for all polypropylene resins. Inspire performance polymers, LDPE resins and HDPE resins, Dowlex LLDPE resins, Attane ULDPE copolymers. Elite enhanced PE resins, and Aspun fibre grade resins. [Pg.7]

D-NMR methods have been extensively exploited to tackle problems in polymer science, however, the use of 3D-NMR techniques in polymer science has been rare. Several factors have discouraged the exploitation of these techniques in polymer science, including the scarcity and expense of isotopically labeled monomers and the relatively small amount of funded research compared to that performed in the biological area. Nevertheless, 3D-NMR method can be extremely useful for studying problems in polymer structure, mechanism and properties. In this review, we will summarize some of our work in this area in the hope that it will inspire others to use this methodology. [Pg.95]

S Property Enhancements The Result of Dispersion. The work that inspired many to look at polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites in the first place was performed by the Toyota Corporation and showed that, in nylon-6, as little as a few weight percent of silicate could afford significant simultaneous enhancements in stiffness, tensile strength, and heat distortion temperature without sacrificing impact strength. ° Since then, many attempts have been made at nanocomposite reinforcement and property enhancement in a number of other systems. Numerous epoxies have also been studied, again with the potential for simultaneous improvements of a variety of mechanical properties in unique... [Pg.385]

In future researches, smarter polymers will be required for compUcated bioprocesses control and other applications. This inspires the design of novel, high-performance, stimuli-responsive materials considering two key features, that is,... [Pg.302]

This section is inspired by the heated debate around the onset of primary crystallization in semiciystalline polymers (30-32,80-85) and the many discussions regarding experimental technique that have taken place because of this debate. Although this example will be used, the underlying idea is that many time-resolved experiments where technique combinations are used are performed to establish the relation between different parameters. This can be the order in which events happen but also differences in the time evolution of the values of parameters. The determination of the simultaneity of two events is typical of combined time-resolved techniques that are becoming more normal in SR experiments. Therefore some details in this specific experiment will be treated in a little more detail as an example of problems that can arise in time-resolved SR experiments. Another experiment where a similar question is addressed can be foimd in the section where spectroscopic techniques (ftir) in combination with saxs are discussed. [Pg.8156]
