Injector pump

Viscosity. For optimum performance of diesel engine injector pumps, the fuel should have the proper viscosity. Too low viscosity results in excessive injector wear and leakage. Viscosity that is too high may cause poor atomisation of the fuel upon injection into the cylinders.

Figure 2.22 [2.6] demonstrates the method of a cooling circuit with recirculated flow An injector pump operated with just evaporated LN2 aspirates the warmer N2 coming from the condenser and feeds the mixture back in the condenser. The desired condenser temperature can be controlled by a throttle valve. To achieve a uniform temperature distribution, the gas mixture is alternately fed to one or the other end of the condenser. No results of such a system are given. 

Combinatorial chemistry techniques produce hundreds, if not thousands, of samples that need to be analyzed in a relatively short period of time. While fast HPLC analyses with short columns and fast gradients have increased throughput, there are still limits on the number of samples that can be processed. Some systems have evolved that incorporate multiple injectors, pumps, and UV detectors, but are still limited by having only one mass spectrometer available for detection and analyte identification. 

Residual fuel oils and heavy marine fuels are composed of high-boiling-petroleum fractions, gas oils and cracked components. Residual and clarified oil streams from the FCC process can contain degraded alumina/silica catalyst fines. These 20- to 70-micron-diameter fines are known to contribute to a variety of problems in fuel injection and combustion systems. In marine engines, excessive injector pump wear, piston ring wear, and cylinder wall wear can all be due to the abrasive action of catalyst fines on these fuel system parts.

If it takes a while to get replacements, double the amounts of the preceding parts and add a detector flow cell, another Ci8 column, and a full pump head. If you are going to Antarctica for the season, an extra injector, pump, detector, strip chart recorder, and a case each of strip chart paper and pens might be nice. One of my customers found that his back-order time in Little America (Antarctica) was 14 months.

Pressure too low Lower than expected system pressure is caused by leaks (piston seal, column connections, injector), pump malfunctions (lost prime, air bubbles in pump head, vapor lock, faulty check valves,broken piston), or inadequate solvent supply (empty solvent reservoir, plugged solvent sinker, bent solvent lines, or wrong solvent mixture). Problem diagnostics can be made by visual inspection for leaks and by monitoring the pressure reading of the pump.

The major portion of the experimental apparatus is described in previous publications (3, 6). A water injector pump was inserted into the preheating portion of the furnace. The exit gas lines and gas chromatograph were maintained above 100 °C by heating tape to prevent water condensation. 

Because saturators and vaporizers for laboratory use are usually made of glass equipment, higher pressures are unpopular. That is why the commercially available jet probe has become popular (see Figure 16-8). A carrier gas stream flows through an injector pump and creates an underpresure of about 0.4 bar (absolute) on the sucking side. The pressure difference of 0.6 bar (or a pressure ratio of 1 0.4) in relation to the precursory calibration gas is sufHcient to guarantee the supercritical flow and to suck up a defined part of the flow (in the range of 1 SCCM, for instance). 

Switch off instruments in the sequence data evaluation, detector, injector, pump. To switch off pump, decrease flow rate in 0.2 ml/min steps. 

Gay-Lussac invented a portable barometer, a steam injector pump, a maximum and minimum thermometer for use in the sea, a modified Volta s eudiometer, and an air thermometer and a spirit blow-lamp. He adapted an ordinary furnace for use as a muffle furnace and described a new method of heating with charcoal impregnated with sodium carbonate. 

Inspect governor and carburetor-injector-pump linkage. Clean if necessary. Perform more often in extremely dusty conditions.
