INDEX scopolamine

The permanent positive charge of QTA influences distribution in vivo and prevents passage of blood-brain barrier and blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier [30, 31]. Myolitic QTA are muscarinic receptor antagonists but allow a better therapeutic index as they are insoluble in lipids and thus poorly systemically absorbed (e.g. bioavailability of A-butyl-scopolamine after oral intake <1 % [30]). Therefore, spasmolytic activity in the GIT (by, e.g. cimetropium, butropium or /V-butyl-scopolamine, Fig. 1), respiratory tract (ipratropium, Fig. 1) and overactive bladder (trospium, Fig. 1) appears as the primary local effect whereas systemic side effects are markedly minimized or absent [32-34],... 

The performance of each subject on the Number Facility Test after Injection was compared with his scores on the three validity scales and 10 standard scales of the Minnesota (hiltlphaslc Personality Index (MMPl). The best correlations between performance In the Number Facility Test and scores on scales In the MMPI for the men given atropine at 62 Mg/kg were with those In the h/pochondrlasls and mania scales. The best correlations for the men given atropine at 104 g/kg were with scores In the lie and mania scales. For the men given scopolamine at 11.8 pg/kg, the best correlations were with scores In the hypochondriasis and lie scales. If atropine and scopolamine are taken as representative of the group of tropic acid esters, the best Indexes of performance In the Number Facility Test under the Influence of such esters are the scores In the lie, l pochondrlasls, and mania scales of the MMPI.

Scopolamine production in a line selected from 750 hairy root cultures of Duboisia leichhardtii could reach 78 mg/liter (329). The maximum percentage of scopolamine detected in one of the cell lines was 2.1% (DW). In some cell lines some scopolamine was also found in the medium however, atropine levels in roots and media were low (0.07-0.82%). The growth index of the roots was found to depend on the inoculum size the larger the inoculum, the lower the growth index.
