INDEX policy

The introduction describes cross-references, parenthetical terms, and the indexing policy notes listed in the main part of the Index Guide. [Pg.6]

The different information types that are present in chemical databases require different techniques for the indexing and retrieval of the various information units. All these techniques for information retrieval demand a good knowledge of both the database indexing policy and the specific functions of the information retrieval system. Most databa.ses contain text information and it is therefore necessary for all users of databases to understand the principles of text indexing and retrieval. Numerical databases are based on either properties. [Pg.1975]

A search for text is very important since most information requests are based on text searches. In order to perform such searches it is necessary to have a good knowledge of both the subject and the indexing policies of the... [Pg.1976]

Indexing policy. It is our policy to index only that information in a paper relevant to our product. We do not index the whole content of a paper, as MEDLARS would, but rather the narrower range of information about our product. The primary advantage of this approach is that we can eliminate many false drops that occur whc n we search the "global" data bases. [Pg.11]

At each sampling instant, a control policy consisting of the next m control moves is calculated. The control calculations are based on minimizing a quadratic or linear performance index over the prediction horizon while satisfying the constraints. [Pg.739]

An alternative procedure is the dynamic programming method of Bellman (1957) which is based on the principle of optimality and the imbedding approach. The principle of optimality yields the Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equation, whose solution results in an optimal control policy. Euler-Lagrange and Pontrya-gin s equations are applicable to systems with non-linear, time-varying state equations and non-quadratic, time varying performance criteria. The Hamilton-Jacobi equation is usually solved for the important and special case of the linear time-invariant plant with quadratic performance criterion (called the performance index), which takes the form of the matrix Riccati (1724) equation. This produces an optimal control law as a linear function of the state vector components which is always stable, providing the system is controllable. [Pg.272]

With the publication of Vol. 51 we should also like to refer to editorial policy this series publishes invited, critical review articles of new developments in all areas of Polymer Science in English (authors may naturally also include works of their own). The responsible editor, that means the editor who has invited the article, discusses the scope of the review with the author on the basis of a tentative outline which the author is asked to provide. Author and editor are responsible for the scientific quality of the contribution the editor s name appears at the end of it. Manuscripts must be submitted, in content, language and form satisfactory, to Springer-Verlag. Figures and formulas should be reproducible. To meet readers wishes, the publisher adds to each volume a volume index which approximately characterizes the content. [Pg.228]

Is there a SOP for archive requirements and retention policies (Is the archived material indexed, is there document control and is it secure )... [Pg.1045]

In this section we first present an efficient step-size policy for differential equation systems and we present two approaches to increase the region of convergence of the Gauss-Newton method. One through the use of the Information Index and the other by using a two-step procedure that involves direct search optimization. [Pg.150]

The price index is adjusted periodically according to an adjustment factor that is pre-established and exogenous to the company during the lifetime of the regulatory contract, but can be established on the basis of the fulfilment of certain policies by the company in the previous period (for example, R D policies, limits on spending on advertising and promotion and so on). [Pg.47]

Medline. The Medline data base, which comes from the National Library of Medicine, is a superb, indispensable reference library that is particularly strong in its wide coverage of research activities in the biomedical literature. It also encompasses the areas of clinical medicine, health policy, and health care services. Each year, over 300,000 articles are reviewed and indexed into the data base. The full bibliographic citations of these articles, usually including the abstract of the published work, are available from numerous vendors in CD-ROM format and are usually updated on a monthly basis. [Pg.108]

In order to improve the policy relevanee of the results, it is necessary to aggregate the indicators analysed to one final result, e.g. a sustainability index. Data aggregation currently faees the faet that there is no commonly accepted methodology to alleviate the problem of evaluating and summarising the environmental indicator data. [Pg.13]

Clinicians must learn to appreciate the value of toxicovigilance. This means that preventive activities for poisoning, such as education of the patient and family or peers, could be done. Informing responsible authorities of an index poisoning case could lead to better and concerted epidemiological investigations and perhaps lead to better health warnings and policy modifications. [Pg.280]
