In order to improve the policy relevanee of the results, it is necessary to aggregate the indicators analysed to one final result, e.g. a sustainability index. Data aggregation currently faees the faet that there is no commonly accepted methodology to alleviate the problem of evaluating and summarising the environmental indicator data.

Since these indicators are given in different scales it is necessary to convert them into the specific quantities which are expressed in the same scale. Convolution of these indicators wills represent an integral measuring parameter which will reflect the total quality of the system. Any degradation of the system will lead to the decrease of Sustainability Index.

The single parameter assessment for each indicator is demonstrated as the traditional approach in the evaluation of the option under consideration that reflects a biased result depending on the selected indicator. In order to apply the multicriteria approach to the hydrogen systems, it is necessary to use the multi-criteria procedure based on the sustainability index rating composed of linear aggregative functions of all indicators with respective weighting functions. 

Which companies operate according to the principles of sustainability The answer can be found in special share indices - the so-called sustainability indices. In 2003, BASF was again included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the third year in succession. This index includes only 10 percent of chemical companies represented in the Dow Jones Global Index. BASF shares are also listed in the FTSE4Good index and are included in the portfolios of various sustainability funds such as Storebrand s Principle fund. 

The fact that ratings of corporate sustainability performance exist and are marketed to investors has been one of the most public manifestations of action where sustainability issues meet capital markets. Obviously, there is an appetite for this research and for investment products that are based on it. Approximately three billion euros are invested based on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.33...
