Inclusion confusion

The large heterogeneities in Mg isotopic composition found for the B2 and A inclusions confuse the simple chronological interpretation possible with the B1 data. The B2 and A data are generally consistent with three alternatives - actual differences in age, isotopic variation due to alteration, or heterogeneity in (26A1/ 27A1)0 which lead to different models for the early solar... [Pg.131]

Work instructions are identified in a Note to clause 4.2.2 of ISO 9001 and in clause 4.9.2 in ISO/TS 16949 where it states that job instructions are equivalent to work instructions. In ISO 9001 it implies that work instructions define how an activity is performed but in ISO 8402 1994 a procedure is defined as a specified way to perform an activity. There isn t enough difference between these two definitions to warrant a change in the term and its inclusion may well create much confusion, especially as ISO 9004-1 does not refer to work instructions or any other type of instructions. The list of topics that should be addressed by job instructions in clause 4.9.2 of ISO/TS 16949 certainly does not by itself imply that job instructions define how an activity is performed ... [Pg.177]

To avoid this confusion, and because many of the elements are actually far from rare, the terms lanthanide , lanthanon and lanthanoid have been introduced. Even now, however, there is no general agreement about the position of La, i.e, whether the group is made up of the elements La to Lu or Ce to Lu. Throughout this chapter the term lanthanide and the general symbol, Ln, will be used to refer to the fourteen elements cerium to lutetium inclusive, the Group 3 elements, scandium, yttrium and lanthanum having already been dealt with in Chapter 20. [Pg.1227]

There are other soUd states which sometimes confuse the measurement and definition of solubiUty. The dmg may crystaUize as a hydrate, i.e. under inclusion of water molecules. If the hydrate form is more stable than the pure form it may be difficult to measure the intrinsic solubility of the drug at all. Often drugs tend to precipitate in an amorphous form, often under the inclusion of impurities. As with metastable polymorphs, such amorphous precipitates may lead to erroneously high solubility measurements. CommerciaUy, drugs are often crystallized in salt form, e.g. as the hydrochloride salt, a cation with a chloride anion. In these co-crystallized salts, a much lower solubility than the intrinsic solubility will typi-... [Pg.286]

Since the robot is computer controlled, all motion must be programmed. In our case the Zymate motion is dictionary driven and operator programmed. It is classified as a "lead-through type robot in its programming O). Commands are operator named for inclusion in the system s dictionary. Since the commands are operator named, it is helpful to develop your own applicable language to avoid confusion at a later date. After positions are "taught and named, they are then archived on a floppy disk for further recall. [Pg.152]

Braden et al. (95) did a similar study in primarily schizophrenic or schizoaffective patients, but the sample also included some affectively-ill cases (i.e., 21% met Feighner criteria for mood disorder). Of the 43 patients on lithium, 15 dropped out because they did not improve, worsened, or were unmanageable or confused. By comparison, only one of 35 treated with CPZ dropped out in the first 10 days. CPZ produced better results in the overactive group, whereas both drugs were comparable in the less active group. As with the VA study, the poor results with lithium in the overactive group may have been an artifact of insufficient duration due to the high dropout rate, or because of the inclusion of patients with a core schizophrenic illness. [Pg.194]

For amine protection, sulfonamides such as 9 offer several advantages over urethanes 5 or amides 7. In particular, secondary amines protected as the urethane or the amide exist as mixtures of rotational isomers, confusing NMR characterization and making crystallization more difficult. The limitation has been that sulfonamides have been difficult to remove. Masanobu Uchiyama of the University of Tokyo reports (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2004,126, 8755) the development of transition metal ate complexes that catalyze electron-transfer reduction. While the sulfonamide 10 is inert to Mg in THF, inclusion of a catalytic amount of the ate complex 11 led to 12 in quantitative yield. [Pg.168]

The allowance for polarization in the DH model obviates the need for separation of long-range and short-range attractive forces and for inclusion of additional repulsive interactions. Belief in the necessity to include some kind of covolume term stems from the confused analysis of Onsager (13), and is compounded by a misunderstanding of the standard state concept. Reference to a solvated standard state in which there are no interionic effects can in principle be made at any arbitrary concentration, and the only repulsive or exclusion term required is that described by the DH theory which puts limits on the ionic atmosphere size and hence on the lowering of electrical free energy. The present work therefore supports the view of Stokes (34) that the covolume term should not be included in the comparison of statistical-mechanical results with experimental ones. [Pg.220]

The whole question of the specificity was reopened with the discovery that E. coli phosphatase, contrary to an earlier statement (114), hydrolyzed a variety of polyphosphates including metaphosphate of average chain length 8 (97). It was subsequently reported that partially purified phosphatases from several mammalian tissues had appreciable PPi-ase activity at pH 8.5 (115). This was confirmed (116) and extended to include ATPase and fluorophosphatase activities (117). Proof that the same enzyme is responsible for the monoesterase and PPi-ase activities was afforded by heat inactivation studies, cross inhibition experiments, and inhibition of PPi-ase activity by L-phenylalanine, a specific inhibitor of intestinal phosphatase. It was also found that calf intestinal phosphatase couid be phosphorylated by 32P-PP and the number of sites so labeled agreed with the number of active sites determined with a monoester substrate using a stopped-flow technique (118). It would seem that the main reason for the confusion with regard to the PPi-ase activity results from the inclusion of Mg2+ in the assay. This stimulates the monoesterase activity but almost completely inhibits PPi-ase activity (117). [Pg.429]

Note that these calculations of the heat of formation of methanol are not purely ab initio (quite apart from the empirical correction terms in the multistep high-accuracy methods), since they required experimental values of either the heat of atomization of graphite (atomization and formation methods) or the heat of formation of methane (formation method). The inclusion of experimental values makes the calculation of heat of formation with the aid of ab initio methods a semiempiri-cal procedure (do not confuse the term as used here with semiempirical programs... [Pg.320]

Sometimes interdepartmental roles and responsibilities for batch record development and review can become confused during the drive to bring a new product to the manufacturing floor. The information below intends to provide a guide for each department. Keep in mind that individual companies may have differences from what is written here therefore, it is imperative that these roles and responsibilities are included in SOPs dealing with batch record development, execution, and review. The goal is to make sure that all necessary steps, as listed in this chapter, are fulfilled. This list is by no means all inclusive of every department or of all actions necessary to meet specific internal requirements. [Pg.304]

Discussions and debate related to the inclusion of deca-BDE in the RoHS Directive have been going on for years. It was originally planned that the inclusion of deca-BDE in the RoHS Directive was to be addressed upon completion of the results of the EU Risk Assessment. With a conclusion that there was no need for restrictions, eca-BDE was exempted from the provisions of the RoHS Directive for polymer applications on October 15, 2005. Confusion centering on what was meant by deca-BDE (commercial product with minor impurities or pure congener) came up in the summer of 2006. Since the commercial deca-BDE was the material evaluated in the EU Risk Assessment, major parts of the chemical, polymer, and electronics industries and significant elements within the EU shared this view. [Pg.687]
