In-line silencers

In-line silencers can reduce the noise associated with fluid flow. Silencers can either contain baffles and chambers, or porous material such as stainless steel wool. Guidance having to do with the design of silencers is provided by the Engineering and Equipment Users Association (EEMUA 1988). [Pg.313]

The skimmer cone is another metal cone, the tip of which has an orifice approximately 0.7 mm in diameter, that protrudes into the zone of silence, and is axially in-line with the sampling orifice as shown in Fig. 5.3. The ions from the zone of silence pass through the orifice in the skimmer cone, into a second intermediate vacuum chamber held at < 10 atm, as an ion beam The ion beam can then be focused by means of a series of ion lenses, which deflect the ions along a narrow path and focus them on to the entrance to the mass analyser. [Pg.120]

Polypropylene powder was being conveyed by suction through a duct system as an air dispersion, lines being retained in a filter trap upstream of the centrifugal fans. However, tlie relatively coarse filter allowed very fine powder to pass and it was eventually retained over a long period of time in a silencer on the fan outlet. The thickening deposit eventually self-heated and ignited, and the fire spread very... [Pg.2455]

We read about and see little sketches, etc., of silencers clamped and sometimes even taped to rifle and pistol barrels, made from tin cans, copper tubing, and the like. These are seldom, it ever, satisfactory. Such a flimsy, haphazard fabrication is usually only a figment of someone s imagination and has no practical value. While it is true that the designs shown here require a little bit of machine work and perhaps a day s time to buUd one, the result, if properly done, will be a sturdy, rigid assembly that will remain in line with the bore and not shoot loose. Then, too, these units can be repacked with new screen and insulation rolls time after time, thus restoring them to new condition over and over again. It would seem to me that the extra effort required is worthwhile. [Pg.234]

PB I said, I wouldn t presume to give the student the answer so to speak but I d gladly share with her my own thoughts. I said that the absence of language speaks volumes about the relationship between these characters and their environment. By the end of the play, despite everything that has happened, they are still in this silence. I asked the student, Who does Bond give the one line of dialogue... [Pg.95]

Coupled with metabolite analyses of natural plant mutants and/or ecotypes deficient in particular compoimds as well as engineered plant lines silenced for particular P450s, these genomic and transcriptomic resources are providing details on the exceptionally large number of P450 transcripts expressed in different plant species, those co-regulated in branch pathways and metabolic interactions between primary and specialized compounds in individual species. [Pg.424]

Paschkis first became embroiled in conflicts of moral and occupational duty as an employee at AEG. Tasked with testing transformers as they came off the line, he identified a pattern of faulty equipment. After a few days marking defective gear, his boss demanded that he falsify the results or be fired. Untold engineers have left similar meetings in a silence that can define a career. Paschkis was righteous and lucky. He successfully pleaded his case to an executive manager who was a distant in-law, and was rewarded for his honesty with a transfer and a promotion. Nonetheless, the lack of formal recourse impressed upon Paschkis the need for collective representation, and he retold his story innumerable times to draw attention to the practical problems of conscience. [Pg.78]

Spray-aluminised coatings are used for exhaust valves in automobile engines, exhaust and silencer systems (double and triple life), tyre moulds, gas ducting, heat-treatment pots, furnace ladles, carburising boxes and fans handling hot gases. Similar applications utilise Calorised and hot-dip aluminised coatings. Hot-dip aluminised steel wire has been used in steel-cored aluminium conductors for overhead transmission lines. For some... [Pg.475]

She stood up and eased her back while she looked at me. She had thinned while we were in exile so many months trapped inside Westminster Sanctuary showed in the lines about her eyes, and the thinning of the skin over her bones, but any man would still have called her beautiful. She said nothing, but I knew her of old her silence did not mean consent, but only consideration. Truly, I thought she might dispute with me. Would she, who could command me as her subject in all things, command my obedience in this Or could I, her brother, head of her house, commander of the King s forces, also command hers ... [Pg.247]

In addition to histone deacetylation, histone lysine methylation can also lead to gene silencing which is not blocked by the HDAC inhibitors [6, 51], Several lines of evidence have suggested a connection between cancer and histone lysine methyltrans-ferases (HKMTs) [52], HKMTs catalyze the transfer of methyl group(s) from the cofactor. S -adenosyI-methionine (AdoMet) to some specific lysine residues in the N-terminal histone tails [53, 54], With one exception of Dotl [55], all known HKMTs contain the SET domain which represents a novel structural fold [53, 56], Among SET-domain HKMTs, SET7/9 is one of the best characterized experimentally. It is a... [Pg.345]

In summary, lycopene must have some specific effect on unknown cellular processes that control the modulation of multiple pathways. General properties, such as antioxidation or pro-oxidation, are unlikely to explain these effects. Since the activation, silencing or loss of pathway control is different for each cell type and its degree of transformation, we do not have enough information to predict whether lycopene may be beneficial or detrimental under different circumstances in various prostate cell lines and in the different stages of prostate cancer. [Pg.454]
