There is a large number of chemicals that is able to cause allergy in susceptible individuals. Many of these are associated with skin sensitization or allergic contact dermatitis. Various immunogenic substances requiring association with carriers are listed in Table 2. Picric acid, discussed as an exceptional low molecular weight sensitizer in Sect. C.II.l, may be cited with some confidence as a compound which associates with autologous carriers, giving rise to an immunogenic complex. This may be inferred from the cross-reactivity data already mentioned, namely that reactions in contact-sensitized animals may only be evoked by contact application of picryl chloride, not by intradermal application or by means of picrylated protein. 

There is very little known about the immunogenic properties of quinidine no systematic attempt to raise antibodies to quinidine and investigate their specificity has been published. Amos (1967, unpublished work) incubated quinidine with serum albumin to effect electrostatic interaction through the basic bridgehead nitrogen and produce an immunogenic complex , which was then injected repeatedly into rabbits, but no antibodies with quinidine specificity were produced.
