Shiraishi et al. [49,50] immobilized glucoamylase of Rhizopus delemar in monolith structures and used them for saccharification of soluble starch. The process was studied at first in a batch reactor at SOX and 4.5 bar. The simplified kinetic model was developed. A continuous process was realized in a monolith reactor consisting of 10 pieces stacked on top of each other, where the blocks were rotated by ir/4 on their axes. The reaction rate at a glucose concentration of 460 g dm" was approximately two times higher than in a conventional industrial process. Conversion of 47% was reached at a space time of 12 hr. The half-life of enzyme was 79 days. [Pg.260]

These are glucose-lsomerase, lactase and amlnoacylase. In the GDR specially Immobilized glucoamylase and Invertase are used on an Industrial scale. [Pg.43]

BC can also be employed as support for enzymes and cells immobilization. Glucoamylase has been immobilized in BC beads (0.5-1.5 mm) which demonstrated to increase its stability towards pH and temperature changes [67]. Wine yeast has also been immobilized in BC, showing higher metabolic activity and resistance to imfavor-able conditions during wine fermentation in comparison with non-immobilized yeasts. In addition, the application of immobilized yeast to repeated batch fermentation in wine-making enhances the economic effectiveness of the production-line because of the cost reduction in inoculum preparation and the simple separation of yeast at the end of the fermentation [68, 69]. [Pg.26]

A highly-substituted carboxymethylcellulose gel with a high degree of hydration has been prepared by precipitation from a solution of the sodium salt, treatment with formaldehyde, and freezing. The gel was converted into an azide derivative, which was used to immobilize glucoamylase. A method for determining the d.s. of carboxymethylcelluloses has been improved.227 Carboxymethylcellulose has been used in studies of the action of rennin on K-casein.22 ... [Pg.459]
