Identity state stabilization

Being in a particular identity state also functions as limiting stabilization. The identity leads to selective perception to make perceptions congruent with the reigning identity state. Certain kinds of perceptions that might activate other identity states are repressed. The tortured child is perceived as an "enemy agent," not as a "child." This keeps emotional and attention/awareness energy out of empathic processes that, if activated, would undermine and disrupt the "soldier" identity. [Pg.164]

One of the primary issues repeatedly arising from the guideline and from the very nature of the complexities of process development, scale up, and eventual large-scale manufacture of biologies is what material is appropriate to use during the various stages of nonclinical development. As stated above, the material should be representative of the anticipated clinical material. This needs to be supported by data, namely identity, purity, stability, and potency. See Table 38.2 for suggested analytical tests for test article used in preclinical studies. [Pg.916]

Other people have strong expectations about what your identity should be. They reinforce identity states of yours that meet their expectations, thus stabilizing those states. When the Yaqui man of knowledge Don Juan advises Carlos Castaneda to erase his personal history, he is giving sound technical advice on a method to reduce the pressures from others so you can discover your inner self. This technical procedure may not work very well for most of us, however. [Pg.126]

The structures operative within a discrete state of consciousness make up a system whose parts stabilize each other s functioning by means of feedback control, so that the state maintains its overall pattern of functioning in spite of some changes in the environment. Yet when certain key environmental stimuli come along, the pattern can break down and be replaced by another, as when some personal remark causes a transition from one identity state to another. [Pg.210]

A particular identity state thus acts as loading stabilization for the ordinary d-SoC it absorbs much available energy that might otherwise activate unknown and perhaps implicitly feared contents that are not acceptable. Success from being in a particular identity state encourages a person to avoid or suppress thoughts and actions that tend to disrupt that state this is negative feedback stabilization. A good soldier is obtaining valuable information about enemy troop movements—information that may save the lives of his buddies—... [Pg.169]

A particular identity state thus acts as loading stabilization for the oridnary d-SoC it absorbs much available energy that might otherwise activate unknown and perhaps implicitly feared contents that are not acceptable. When you "know" who are, when you take on an identity state, then you immediately have criteria for dealing with various situations. If I am a "father" in this moment I know that certain things are expected and desired of me and I can cope well within that framework with situations involving my children. If the situation changes and I now become a "professor," then I have a new set of rules on how to cope with... [Pg.155]

Substrate size- and shape-selective reactions can also be explained in terms of effective concentration and transition state stabilization. 1) In a mixture of substrates a higher concentration can be achieved for those having a complementary size and shape to the nanoreactor portals and cavity (and thus can enter the nanoreactor) compared to those substrates that can not easily enter or do not fit within the cavity. In some cases, when the substrate encapsulation is a slow process (slow diffusion), substrate encapsulation can become the rate-determining step. 2) One can also imagine that substrates of identical size and shape can both enter the cavity, but the transition state of one of the reaction pathways is stabilized to a greater extent than the other. Importantly, for all encapsulated reactions one should keep in mind that the substrate residence time within the nanoreactor and the kinetic rates of the encapsulated reaction should at least have a comparable magnitude. ... [Pg.149]

The results obtained permit to analyse the influence of the control on the intermediate steady state stability. The section of the stability domains and the point A corresponding to intermediate steady temperature 9 = 9J for different values of parameter d are shown in Fig. 3. Phe section of stability domain corresponding to d = 0 is dashed in Fig. It is seen that the intermediate steady state becomes stable when d>d. If d = d the point A achieves the boundary of the stability domain. The value d can be obtained from the equation - 3 which is identical to Eq, (2.4). Thus the intermediate steady state becomes stable when it turns to be the lower steady-state. The numerical analysis shows that in the nonlinear case the value of d depends on the perturbation amplitude. For example if d = d2 the intermediate steady state is stable as the temperature perturbations are less than a0 (see Fig. 2). [Pg.566]

The importance of hyperconjugative effects on A sx was rejected on the basis of various GVB approaches and Mulliken population analyses (see Electronic Wavefunctions Analysis) for methylcarbene. It was concluded that it is not the singlet state stabilization by the methyl group but rather the triplet state destabilization which results in a smaller singlet-triplet separation with respect to methylene. The GVB Mulliken population analyses show that the hybridizations of the a orbitals are almost identical in the singlet states of methylene and methylcarbene. For the triplet states, however, Mulliken population analyses indicate a decrease in p character when... [Pg.188]

Let us now turn to the surfaces themselves to learn the kinds of kinetic information they contain. First observe that the potential energy surface of Fig. 5-2 is drawn to be symmetrical about the 45° diagonal. This is the type of surface to be expected for a symmetrical reaction like H -I- H2 = H2 -h H, in which the reactants and products are identical. The corresponding reaction coordinate diagram in Fig. 5-3, therefore, shows the reactants and products having the same stability (energy) and the transition state appearing at precisely the midpoint of the reaction coordinate. [Pg.197]
