Besides cancer, tamoxifen induces benign changes in the endometrial and subendometrial structures, which induce a burden of unnecessary examinations (ultrasound, hysteroscopy, biopsy etc.) and surgery (D Cs, hysterectomies) due to misleading or false positive ultrasonographic reports (Dijkhuizen et al. 1996). Anaphylactic reactions to dextrans have been reported, for example within 10 minutes after exposure to dextran in hysteroscopy (22). It can be fatal (23). 

Pulmonary hemorrhage after dextran use has also been described in hysteroscopy (40).

Endoscopic procedures such as laparoscopy or hysteroscopy have a role in patients with suspected fibroids and inconclusive US findings. Since the mid-twentieth century, technology in the surreal arena has developed markedly. Technological advances in endoscopy—laparoscopy (abdomen), cystoscopy (bladder), hysteroscopy (uterus), and arthroscopy (joints)— have resulted in dramatic changes in patient care. Endoscopy has replaced traditional methods in many procedures. Many medical products have been desigpied for endoscopy and other smgical procedures. In addition, robotics is being developed to assist in endoscopic sui cal procedures. 

Hysteroscopy. In hysteroscopy, a hysteroscope is passed through the cervix into the uterus for viewing the endometrial cavity (uterine interior) and taking a biopsy of the uterine lining. The procedure can be used to remove fibroid tumors, polyps, and uterine abnormalities such as a septum (wall) in order to correct infertility problems. A small flexible video lens can be passed into the Fallopian tubes for viewing problems inside them and removing scar tissue.

An allergic hypersensitivity reaction -generalized itching, erythema and oedema of the eyelids — occurred with Dextran 70 during hysteroscopy for removal of an implanted Daikon shield. No previous exposure to dextran was known to the patient. Dextran was given to prevent anticipated bleeding (34 ).
