Process pumps convey a variety of liquids required in processes involving acids, caustics, liquid chlorine, liquid vinyl chloride, and other hazardous fluids. Compressors at this location convey gaseous chlorine, anhydrous hydrogen chloride, refrigerants, and compressed air. [Pg.208]

In a typical experiment, a 12.18-mmol sample of hydrogen chloride is frozen into a 500-ml. reaction bulb on the vacuum system. (Liquid nitrogen is the refrigerant.) An 8.22-mmol sample of (dimethylamino)difluorophosphine is then frozen into the bulb, the stopcock to the bulb is closed, and the system is allowed to warm slowly to 25°. Reaction is indi-... [Pg.155]

Each reactor has its own product cooler, and pairs of reactors and coolers operate alternately to permit cleanout of carbon. The cooled reactor product is fed directly to the prefractionator whose function is to separate the organic chlorides from propylene and hydrogen chloride. Liquid propylene from storage is used as reflux, its flow being regulated by a recorder-controller. This reflux is cooled to about — 40°C, the dew point of the top stream from the prefractionator, by self-refrigeration in a propylene flash drum. [Pg.273]

Chloropropionaldehyde Diethyl Acetal. According to the literature procedure,200 g of absolute ethanol was saturated with dry hydrogen chloride (bubbled through concentrated sulfuric acid) in a 500 ml, threenecked flask, in an ice-water bath. The ethanolic solution was then transferred to a 3-liter, 3-necked flask fitted with an inlet tube, a bubbler, and a magnetic stirrer. The flask was cooled in an ice-water bath. The three-necked flask was also fitted with an efficient condenser which was connected to an exhaust bubbler. To the cold, acidified ethanol was added 112 g (2 moles) of cold acrolein from the liquid addition flask over the course of 1-2 hrs. This solution was then quickly transferred to a 2-liter separatory funnel which was sealed and placed in a refrigerator. After approximately 15 minutes, two layers had separated. The lower layer of acetal was collected and neutralized by the slow addition of powdered sodium bicarbonate. This supension was then filtered and the filtrate was washed with two 50 ml portions of ice-water and dried over 20-30 g of anhydrous potassium carbonate for 10-15 hr. The solution was finally filtered and distilled under reduced pressure, b.p. 96-136 , 12-20 torr (lit. 58-62 ,... [Pg.74]

Anhydrous hydrogen chloride is shipped as a compressed liquefied gas under its own vapor pressure in cylinders and in tube trailers. It is also shipped as a refrigerated liquid in insulated tank cars and cargo tanks. [Pg.439]

Sodium hydrogen sulfate is manufactured by reacting sodium chloride with sulfuric acid in heated cast iron retorts. The liquid product is solidified in refrigeration units. It can also be manufactured in liquid form directly from sodium sulfate and sulfuric acid and is produced as a byproduct in the manufacture of chromic acid, but this is contaminated with Cr(III)- and Cr(VI)-compounds. [Pg.225]
