The beginning of the possible market introduction of hydrogen passenger cars in the most optimistic scenarios is around 2015, which is also in line with the implementation plan of the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform (HFP, 2007). The Reference scenario features high policy support, fast learning, concentrated users, early network and no country-specific bounds. 

Germany is participating actively in the EU Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform and is actively involved in the International Partnership on Hydrogen Economy (IPHE). 

Sweden is a participant in the EU demonstration project CUTE (Clean Urban Transport for Europe) where 3 Fuel cell buses are run in each of 9 European cities. The hydrogen, which provides fuel for the FC buses, is produced locally by electrolysis. Sweden has recently joined the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform organised by EU.

It is anticipated that once the JTI does commence, the work programme will be based on the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform (HFP) Implementation Plan (IP). As this will probably be the basis of the Jn working programme, a brief outline of the IP is given here.
