The European Food Safety Authority was first mooted in the Conunission s White Paper of January 2000 [1] which outlined the strategic objectives, priorities and work programme in relation to food safety. It also provided for the establishment of a European Food Safety Authority. 

The Executive Director is to be appointed by the Management Board following a open selection process. He is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Authority and for its staff. His other main task will include preparation of the draft work programme and its subsequent implementation, for organisation of the selection process or the Scientific Committee and the Panels. 

The Advisory Forum will be comprised of one member from the national body with the same remit as the Authority. It will advise the Executive Directive on the Authority s work programme and work prioritisation. The Forum will allow input from the Member States and will accordingly contribute to the avoidance of duplication between the work of the Authority and that of the Member States. It will also promote networking between organisations in Member States. 

Further work is included in the work programme of the Sub-Committee of Experts on the GHS.
