Hydraulic loading

Evaluates the performance of each unit of a wastewater treatment plant based on hydraulic loadings, solid flux loadings, food/microorganism ratios, sludge age, settleability, and related parameters. 

A valve with bridges and internal compartments for form and dry under vacuum and cake discharge under pressure with 2-2.5 bar snap or 0.2-0.25 bar constant blow. Most disc filters are fitted with one valve only however two valves are often mounted on both drive and nondrive ends with long barreled filters or when the hydraulic loadings are high.

Higher than expected hardness levels are usually attributed to inadequate chemical addition or poor sludge recirculation. High turbidity is often attributable to fluctuating hydraulic loading on the process plant.

Gravity flow in downflow carbon beds is usually controlled at hydraulic loadings less than 9.78 m3/h/m2 (4 gal/min/ft2). Upflow carbon beds with bed expansion should be considered when headloss is expected. It should be noted that TSS will break through an upflow carbon bed at about 10% bed expansion. 

The 4-ft-circular Supracell DAF was used for this testing. The flotation area is 10 ft2. Maximum hydraulic loading is 30 U.S. gpm. The unit was set up adjacent to the aeration basin at the waste treatment plant. A small sump pump was used to pump mixed liquor to the Supracell DAF.
