Human gingival fibroblasts

In vitro, chlorhexidine can adversely affect gingival fibroblast attachment to root surfaces. Furthermore, protein production in human gingival fibroblasts is reduced at chlorhexidine concentrations that would not affect cell proliferation. Such findings corroborate earlier studies showing delayed wound healing in standardized mucosal wounds after rinsing with 0.5% chlorhexidine solution. [Pg.502]

Human gingival fibroblasts (HGF) were maintained according to the method of Elvin and Evans [19]. Stock cultures were recovered from liquid nitrogen and plated at 200,000 cells per 25 cm tissue-culture flask in a-DMEM with 10% foetal bovine serum and 1% antibiotics. [Pg.457]

It has been shown that tannic acid (TA) exerts cancer chemopreventive activity in various animal models (61). TA induced either growth arrest or apoptotic death (62). TA induced apoptosis more in human oral squamous cell carcinoma and salivary gland tumor cell lines than in normal human gingival fibroblasts, whereas gallic acid, a component unit of TA, showed much weaker selective cytotoxicity (63). Recently, it was shown that inhibition of the proteosome of living Jurkat cells results in accumulation of two natural proteosome substrates, the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p27 and the proapoptotic protein Bax, followed growth arrest in G1 and induction of apoptotic cell death (d ). [Pg.60]
