This header has undergone repair after through-thickness cracking of an assembly weld after 108.000 hours of service, it is presently in operation and periodically submitted to ultrasonic inspection during planned maintenance shutdown. Continuous on-line AE monitoring of the integrity of critical welds is expected to contribute supporting continued and safe operation of the header until its replacement, platmed to take place in 1999. 

In general, DOT safety regulations fall into two categories. The first pertains to qualifications and hours of service of carrier employees and the safety of transport operations and equipment. The second, of special concern to the chemical industry, pertains to the transportation of hazardous materials and related commodities.

Overtime is especially costly because after laboring eight hours a man s efficiency is less. He is naturally tired. Some employers have claimed that when a worker puts in two hours of overtime they get only about one hour of services. This means a company may pay for twelve hours of work at the base pay rate and effectively get only nine hours of work per day. This could increase the cost of construction labor by one-third or the total cost of constructing the plant by over 8%. The average construction costs index by state is given annually in the Plant Sites issue of Chemical Week and by the Federal Department of Labor. 

Extended life for the zeolite Beta catalyst has been demonstrated in this work using the same, or similar, crude tBA feedstocks to those employed in Table 1. Isobutylene generation has been monitored over ca. 500 to 1000 hours of service, under steady state reactive distillation conditions, without significant losses in activity or changes in product compositions. 

Performance. Carbon-zinc cells perform best under conditions of intermittent use, and many standardized tests have been devised that are appropriate to such applications as light and heavy flashlight usage, radios, cassettes, and motors (toys). The most frequently used tests are American National Standards Institute (ANSI) tests. The tests are earned out at constant resistance and the results reported in minutes or hours of service. Figure 1 shows typical results under a light load for different size cells.

Hours-of-service or watch requirements vary depending on type of vessel. 

In Europe, little or no work has been officially commissioned to investigate underlying factors for human operator fatigue. Consequently, for many years new laws have been implemented in the United States and Canada to reduce the risk of fatigue-related catastrophes, while outdated regulations are still in effect in Europe. Therefore, it is not surprising that the latest implementation of hours-of-service regulations for European pilots, A5-0263/2002 (50), has been heavily opposed by the European Cockpit Association. 

Accident data show a strong influence of time-of-day factors. Thus, hours-of-service regulations cannot be based only on the overall length of the duty period. Instead, they must include a careful consideration of the positioning of the duty period within the 24-hr cycle. In addition, inverted duty-sleep periods need...

Mn02 than it could provide 1.5 hours of service at a load of 5 A or at an extreme it could support a load of 12.5 A for about 20 minutes. These values are competitive to rolled lead-acid or Ni-Cd batteries. 

Most non-aerospace CMC applications require long service lives. For these applications CMC components must avoid creep rupture and must exhibit creep strains lower than 1 percent after 10,000 hours of service (e.g., at 1,200°C [2,192°F] and 100 MPa [14.5 ksi]) components must also be chemically and microstructurally stable. These stringent demands present major challenges to researchers and engineers, particularly for material development and accelerated testing. The performance objectives limit the material choices to polycrystalline oxides, SiC, or amorphous Si-C-N-B compositions (single-crystal fibers are not affordable).
