Horizontal peeler centrifuge

Feed Mechanism. A cake detection device, pneumatic in some designs, activates the feed valve closure when the desired cake depth is reached. This cake depth is monitored by a proximity switch. This device can also act as a cake distributor to level the load during feeding. Alternative feed designs are available depending upon the vendor. [Pg.579]

The entire cycle is operated automatically on a pre-programmed basis, all by time. The wash can, of cou rse, be by time or volumetric basis, monitored by air in-line flow meter and totalized. [Pg.579]

The solids distribution profile may tend to be parabolic with thicker cakes near the bottom of the basket, tapering down toward the top, since the G-field is perpendicular to the force of gravity. This is especially true with fast-sedimenting solids that will settle toward the basket bottom before the slurry is fully accelerated by the basket. The coarser solids can settle toward the basket bottom, while the finer solids deposit preferentially toward the top. This can result in uneven filtration resistance in the cake, affecting the wash pattern and efficiency of the wash. In cases where this is a concern, a rotating feed cone may be better for even distribution, or a horizontal peeler centrifuge may be better suited to the application. [Pg.2063]

The average prices of the batch centrifuge are shown in Fig. 18-154. All the models include the drive motor and control. In Fig. 18-154, the inverting filter, horizontal peeler, and the advanced vertical peeler are the premium baskets especially used for specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Control versatility with the use of programmable logic control (PLC), automation, and cake-heel removal are the key features which are responsible for the higher price. The underdriven, top-driven, and pendulum baskets are less expensive with fewer features. [Pg.1743]

Centrifugal filters are also used quite widely in the fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals sector. They can either be of the perforated basket type (as shown in Figure 4.30), with manual, bag or knife unloading of filter cake, or the peeler, operating with a horizontal axis and with cake removal by a peeling knife into a discharge chute. [Pg.264]
