Feeding mechanism

The basic elements of a needle-punch machine, or needle loom, are illustrated ia Figure 7 and consist of a web-feeding mechanism, a needle beam with a needle board and needles (ranging ia number from 500 to 7500 per meter of machine width), a stripper plate, a bed plate, and a fabric take-up mechanism. [Pg.152]

A machine with approximately 1000 needles continuously produces a fabric 5-m wide. The assembly process is more complex, slower, and more expensive than tufting. The pile yam and stitch yam are inserted into the knitting needle, and the stuffer yam is interlocked with the others through a separate feed mechanism of the machine. As with tufting, the loops of the pile fabric formed are sHt, creating the desired individual blades. [Pg.536]

The Osaka machines (Fig. 8) utilize a vibratory feed mechanism [48,49]. In this machine, the capsule body passes under a feed frame, which holds the powder in... [Pg.349]

Plasma gasification is a generic-type process that can accommodate virtually any input waste material in as-received condition, including liquids, gases, and solids in any form or combination. Also, moisture content is not a problem. Liquids, gases, and small particle-size waste materials are very easily and efficiently processed. Bulky items, such as household appliances, tires, and bedsprings, can also be readily accommodated without loss of destruction efficiency. The reactor vessel and waste feed mechanism are designed for the physical characteristics of the input waste stream. Even waste materials such as low-level radioactive waste can be processed to reduce the bulk and encapsulate the radioactive constituents to reduce leachability. [Pg.161]

Some system designs have a double port feeding mechanism that is charged with inert gas to prevent air venting into the hot zone. [Pg.162]

As shown in Fig. 14.24, a self-regulating oxidizer feeding mechanism is used to eliminate the liquid oxidizer pumping system. A flow of the pressurized fuel-rich gas generated in tlie primary combustor forces the oxidizer tank to supply the liquid oxidizer to the secondary combustor. Simultaneously, the fuel-rich gas is injected into the secondary combustor and reacts with the atomized oxidizer. The fuel-rich gas is injected from the primary combustor into the secondary combustor through the fuel gas injector under condihons of a choked gas flow. The pressure in the primary combustor is approximately double that in the secondary combustor. This system is termed a gas-pressurized system. [Pg.431]

Quinine is one of several alkaloids derived from the bark of the cinchona tree. The mechanism by which it exerts its antimalarial activity is not known. It does not bind to DNA at antimalarial dosages. It may poison the parasite s feeding mechanism, and it has been termed a general protoplasmic poison, since many organisms are affected by it. [Pg.615]

Feeders and Feeding Mechanisms are devices intended for continuous and automatic carrying of materials to feed various units of a plant. Liquids and gaseous materials are usually fed by pumps, fans and pressure vessels. Solids, however,... [Pg.394]

Extruders can be broadly classified (14,15) as screw and cylinder extruders, based on the feed mechanism that transports the wet mass towards the die and further based on the die configuration and discharge mechanisms. Figure 3 shows extruders of varying scales from lab to production while Figure 4 shows schematics of the various configurations of extruders used in the pharmaceutical industry. A comparison of attributes of various types of extruders is shown in Table 2. [Pg.329]

Semiclosed systems for handling solids often involve the use of big bags or tote bins. In these systems the solid is shipped in alarge (>1 t) container which is then lifted into place over a closed hopper or feed mechanism and a sealed connection is made. It is sometimes necessary to rap or agitate the big container to keep the solid moving and this action can result in deterioration or damage to the container or seals with consequent leaks. Also, there is some release of solids when containers are connected or disconnected as well as opportunities for dust generation. [Pg.105]

All this means is that if any part of the total pack structure does not feed to the line, the feeding mechanisms for the subsequent operations will not be activated. It is also essential to ensure that the correct fill of product has gone into the primary pack by whatever method is used. [Pg.679]

Burning whole tires rather than tire chips saves shredding costs, but transportation costs may be higher, depending on the distance between the cement kiln and the tire supply. The feeding mechanism for whole tires is also more expensive than for chips, because a seal must be provided to prevent leaking cold air into the process with the tires. [Pg.63]

Cement manufacture is a power-intensive process, which allows cement companies to buy fuel in bulk and obtain the fuel at a somewhat lower price. Also, kiln feed mechanisms are easily modified, to accept alternate fuels. Further, because temperatures in a kiln reach 2700 F, kilns can bum poorer quality coal than pulp and paper mills or even utilities, and can easily tolerate a wide variety of waste products.10 In addition, kilns can accommodate the lower priced TDF (wire-in TDF and even whole tires). These factors make the economics of supplying TDF to cement manufacturers less favorable than for pulp and paper mills.10 One cement manufacturer is paying approximately 30/ton for TDF.11... [Pg.138]

In stoker boilers, fuel is either dropped or rammed onto a grate. Stoker boilers are identified by the type of feed mechanism and the type of grate. Feed may be by spreader, overfeed, or underfeed. Grates may be travelling, reciprocating, chain, or dump type. [Pg.155]
