Honorable Mention

Two proprietary UHMWPE materials, Duration and Aeonian , were not selected for inclusion among the six materials described in tiiis compendium, but nonetheless deserve special mention for tire sake of completeness on this 

Wear testing by Essner and colleagues in a multidirectional hip simulator for up to 10 million cycles demonstrated that Duration exhibited 32% less volumetric wear than air-irradiated control UHMWPE (1997). However, in a recent radiostereometric study by Nivbrant and colleagues, the clinical wear rate of Duration was not significantly different than an air-irradiated control UHMWPE after 2 years of follow-up (2003). 

Crossfire, an annealed highly crosslinked UHMWPE, was developed by Scott Taylor and coworkers at Stryker Osteonics Corp. (Allendale, NJ). Crossfire was clinically introduced in the fall of 1998 for the Series II liner in the Omnifit acetabular cup design. After Osteonics acquired Howmedica in 1999, and

In 1930, he entered Swarthmore College, receiving his B. A. in chemistry with high honors and Phi Beta Kappa. He played varsity lacrosse, was captain of the team and honorable mention All-American. He met his future wife and mother of his five children, Mary Elma White, while a junior at Swarthmore. They were married on June 1936, just after her graduation from Swarthmore and his from Harvard, where he received his Ph. D. in June 1936, finishing his doctoral thesis under Louis Fieser in only twenty months. His research resulted in four papers published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. Bantry Bay received an honorable mention at the 1992 Red River Valley Fair Homebrew Competition. 

Dr. Lattimer is an internationally recognized authority in the analytical characterization and degradation of polymeric materials. His research interests include mechanisms of crosslinking and pyrolysis of polymers, and the mass spectrometric analysis of polymeric systems. He is Editor of the Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis and a past Associate Editor of Rubber Chemistry and Technology. Dr. Lattimer is past Chairman of the Gordon Research Conference on Analytical Pyrolysis, and he received the ACS Rubber Division s Sparks-Thomas Award in 1990. He has won two Rubber Division Best Paper Awards, as well as three Honorable Mentions. 

In terms of applications, the subjects of chemical equivalence and symmetry still deserve honorable mention in that one can use the relative number and NMR multiplicity to assign structure, e.g., trigonal bipyramidal, (7), vs. square pyramidal, (8), in ML5 complexes (especially where L is a spin 7= 1/2 donor).

As early as 1934 the American Institute of Chemical Engineers had prepared and issued a student contest problem . This problem can be attempted by any student who had not completed a B.S. degree in chemical engineering. The contest rules are that the solution was to be done independently and within thirty consecutive calendar days. Each department of chemical engineering can submit up to two solutions for national judging. A first, second and third prize plus honorable mentions may be awarded with the awards being made at the annual national meeting... 

Mr. Jones received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in chemistry and honorable mention in English literature from Haverford College in 1952. At the graduate school level, he studied business administration at the University of Pennsylvania s Wharton School. He has completed language studies in German, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. 

He i s a graduate of Haverford College, holding a BS with Honors in Chemistry and Honorable Mention in English Literature. He is a Fellow of both the Society of Plastics Engineers and the American Institute of Chemists. He is a 50-Year Member of the American Chemical Society and a member of Sigma Xi. He retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve with the rank of captain, after 34 years of service. 

Dr. Suetsugu received the Technology Award of the Society of Material Science, Japan IPC Special Award, Technology Award of the Japan Institute of Electronic Packaging, Best Paper Award of the Microelectronics Association, and Honorable Mention by the Society of Polymer Science, Japan.
