Holarrhena antidysenterica (Apocynaceae), an Indian plant, is used for treatment of dysentery. The steroidal alkaloid conessine (101) was the main antiamebic constituent (Bonis and Schaeffer, 1992). The same compound occurs in Wrightia tomentosa.
