Other high-performance epoxy resins have been synthesized with the goal of achieving higher-temperature performance. Initially epoxy novolacs, which have a more rigid aromatic backbone and a higher epoxide functionality, were prepared. [Pg.53]

In the area of monitoring of the cure of high-performance epoxy resins for composite materials the relative merits of FT-Raman have been compared with those of FT-IR in the NIR region (as discussed in Section 3.6.2) (de Bakker et al, 1993a). [Pg.241]

In both nylon 66, studied by Starkweather [25], and high-performance epoxy resin, described by Moy and Karasz [30], the water is believed to hydrogen bond between polar sites in the polymers, acting as crosslinks at low temperatures but plasticizing at elevated temperatures because of the greater thermal mobility of water compared to segments of the polymer chain. [Pg.9]

The use of high-performance epoxy resin systems in the civil engineering field has greatly increased since 1960. Nowadays these thermosetting polymers are widely used in this field as matrices for fiber-reinforced materials. In particular, their principal applications are in the following fields ... [Pg.112]

Recently, because high-performance epoxy resin is strict in its requirements, polyfunctional epoxy has been offered in practical fields. In particular, epoxy novolac resin (ENR) is largely used as electronic encapsulation material because of its well-known thermal resistance properties. Because the strucmres of ENR exert a significant influence on the properties of the cured resins, it is necessary to understand their structure-property relationship. Despite various advantages, epoxy needs modifications to overcome some crucial disadvantages like limited solubility in polar solvents, higher cost of bisphenol A-based epoxy and maximum service temperature of only about 100 °C. [Pg.138]

By measuring the stress on discontinuous high-modulus carbon fibers embedded in a high-performance epoxy resin, Galiotis [96] determined the interfacial shear stress along the fibers. He found that there was no stress transfer at the ends of the fibers (i.e., the stress on the ends of the fibers was zero). The stress on the fibers increased until it reached that of the matrix, at about 400 im from the fiber end. The interfacial shear stress decreased from 60 MPa to zero over a distance of about 100 [xm from the fiber end. He... [Pg.801]

The resins that are used in printed circuit board laminates determine the type of silanes that are used. High-performance epoxy resins are the most used resins, so an epoxy-compatible silane is required. Vinylbenzylaminosilane has been most used for this application. Low ionic content (a low chloride level), ease of solubility in treatment baths, and minimization of agglomerates on the electronic glass surface to prevent flaws are all important parameters in the choice of a coupling agent. [Pg.564]

Introducing phosphorus-containing groups into the structure of polysulfone (either into backbone or main chain) the new modified polymers display high thermal stability with inherent flame retardant quality and could also be used as high temperature matrix resins and toughness modifiers in curable high performance epoxy resins. [Pg.170]

With all these ideas in mind, an attempt was made to obtain high performance epoxy resins with superior impact strength, thermal stability, flame retardancy and corrosion and fouling resistance by simultaneous incorporation of silicone and phosphorus moieties into the epoxy skeleton. The present work discusses the development of novel phosphorus-containing siliconized epoxy resins, the improved characteristic properties of the cmed resin systems md their nanocomposites as well. The developed phosphorus-containing siliconized epoxy resins offer multi-faceted properties ideally suitable for high performsmce apphcations. [Pg.28]
