Acceptance of input from outside the hierarchy. Mentees are likely to be open to entering a developmental mentoring relationship with a mentor who stems from any environment - perhaps from another department or external to the company. Adherence to hierarchy. Mentees are likely to seek input from people who are in a more or less direct line relationship with them - e.g. their line-manager or his or her boss. Developmental input from an external source is unlikely to be accepted.

Maslow s hierarchy appears also to have a developmental component. Lower level needs will be of less concern if they have been habitually satisfied for some time. Thus, the lower levels of physiological and safety and security needs of the average American adult were satisfied in childhood, and have little influence on the adult s motivation (Harbaugh, 1972). Love needs for Americans are often satisfied in adolescence, and estean needs are thought to be satisfied sometime in early adult life. Self-actualization as a motivational factor may only be important when approaching later life. 

Living systems, like the universe from which they are descended, are mainly understandable as a process [1-8]. They are characterized preferentially by their dynamics rather than by their statics. As structure and phase correspond in some way to molecular biology (Fig. 1) and liquid crystals (Fig. 2), the two fields will appear in our days as two scientific aspects of much more general duality phenomena (Fig. 3) that govern quite different stages and hierarchies of developmental processes within our universe. They both represent essentials in our somewhat inadequate attempts to cope with the complexity of life patterns, which can be only approximately - if at all - comprehended by the only partially adequate complexity of our different scientific approaches. 

Three ways of approaching culture are available, the academic, the analytical and the pragmatic approach. The academic approach makes use of qualitative techniques and results in a thick description of a culture which is value-free. The analytical approach is based on self-administered questionnaires and makes comparisons between (sub-)cultures possible. Finally, the pragmatic approach uses developmental hierarchies to describe cultures. Organisations are supposed to aim for the highest steps on these hierarchies.

A general structure model developed for highly oriented liquid crystalline fibers [429, 430] is shown schematically in Fig. 5.111. The model was initially defined for the developmental Vectran LCP fibers, but it has been extended by study of the aromatic polyamides and the major features appear to be general in nature. It seems that in this accelerated hierarchy of various levels of interaction gene interaction is only a partial aspect of the problem and is more a concern of genetics than of developmental biology. In reality. Professor Korochkin s book demonstrates that gene interaction is an essential aspect of the developmental process, or, in other words, the realization of the heredity information occurs only through gene interaction.
