Developmental processes

Second-generation juvenoids incorporate more substantial stmctural departures from neotenin and are more resistant to metaboHc and environmental degradation. Epiphenonane, 2-ethyl-3-[3-ethyl-5-(4-ethylphenoxy)-pent-3-en-yl] 2-methyloxirane (131), has a rat oral LD q of 4000 mg/kg. It and similar juvenoids are used in China and Japan to prolong the last larval instar of the silkworm so that silk production is increased 10—15%. Fenoxycarb, ethyl [2-(4-phenoxyphenoxy)ethyl] carbamate (132) (mp 53°C, vp 0.0078 mPa at 20°C), is soluble in water to 6 mg/L. The rat oral LD q is >16,800 mg/kg. Fenoxycarb has a wide spectmm of activity, interfering with the developmental processes of fleas, cockroaches, and ants. [Pg.294]

No information was located concerning whether the developmental process is altered in humans exposed to endosulfan either prenatally or postnatally. Studies in animals have provided inconclusive evidence (FMC 1980b, 1981 Gupta et al. 1978 Hoechst 1982, 1984a), and further well-conducted research would be helpful to clarify this issue. [Pg.200]

The developmental processes which produce the AOS parallel to those of the MOS and, although they become separate systems as soon as the organisation of the forebrain begins, do not differ except in the details specific to each system. The differentiation of cell types within the organ, synapse formation in the AOB and the establishment of more central tertiary connections occur in a similar but not identical sequence. In general, the differences amount to alterations in the timing of ontogenetic events, with primary olfaction usually in advance of the... [Pg.70]

This document was produced under API standardization procedures that ensure appropriate notification and participation in the developmental process and is designated as an API standard. Questions concerning the interpretation of the content of this standard or comments and questions concerning the procedures under which this standard was developed should be directed in writing to the director of the department listed on the inside front cover write to, American Petroleum Institute, 1220 L Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20005. Requests for permission to reproduce or translate all or any part of the material published herein should also be addressed to the director. [Pg.4]

A developmental process that can, during growth, take into consideration feedback from the environment in order to determine the best final properties (e.g., size) of the adult phenome. [Pg.292]

I offer a different and complementary perspective on units which accommodates developmental processes explicitly and which articulates the intimate relationship between units of hereditary transmission and developmental expression. I argue that a process perspective on the temporal dimension of the transition problem, focusing on the propagation of developmental capacities, is a helpful addition to the spatial and functional perspectives. Reproduction is the process that, in general, forms the basis for evolution at a level and also for evolutionary transition to new levels. Processes of inheritance and replication can be understood as special cases of reproduction. In order to formulate a view of how processes of development and hereditary propagation are intertwined in reproduction, let us consider development further. [Pg.214]

Sahotra Sarkar Let me make a comment, only partly tongue in cheek, which you probably will think completely unfair. There is virtually nothing that you said that I disagree with except for some of the religious terminology of autopoiesis and stuff like that. The comment I want to make is, yes we all say that there is this complicated developmental process where there is an... [Pg.299]
