Heck Suzuki coupling

To date a number of reactions have been carried out in ionic liquids [for examples, see Dell Anna et al. J Chem Soc, Chem Commun 434 2002 Nara, Harjani and Salunkhe Tetrahedron Lett 43 1127 2002 Semeril et al. J Chem Soc Chem Commun 146 2002 Buijsman, van Vuuren and Sterrenburg Org Lett 3 3785 2007]. These include Diels-Alder reactions, transition-metal mediated catalysis, e.g. Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions, and olefin metathesis reactions. An example of ionic liquid acceleration of reactions carried out on solid phase is given by Revell and Ganesan [Org Lett 4 3071 2002]. [Pg.77]

Palladium-mediated catalysis has only been exploited relatively recently in the synthesis of substituted PPV derivatives. The use of aryl dibromides as monomers is particularly useful as it allows the synthesis of PPVs substituted with alkyl rather than alkoxy sidechains. The Suzuki [53, 54], Heck [55], and Stille [56] reactions have been used in the synthesis of new PPV derivatives, but attaining high molecular weight PPV derivatives by these methodologies has proved problematic. A phenyl-subslilutcd PPV material PPPV 31 was synthesized by a Suzuki coupling (Scheme 1-10) of dibromoethene and fo/.v-boronic acid 30. Its absorption (2ni ix=385 nm) and emission (2max=475 nm) maxima were strongly... [Pg.18]

Brick et al. have studied this bromination in more detail and showed that the extent of the bromination can be controlled by changing the ratio of the reagents. The first substitution was found to be in the para position but subsequent intramolecular rearrangements allowed the formation of 2-5-dibrominated species. Brick et al. also reported the functionalization of such species using Pd-catalyzed reactions such as Heck and Suzuki couplings to give fully substituted p-stilbenes, p-biphenyls, diarylamines, and methylcinnamates. Hydrogenation of... [Pg.33]

Another example of a one-pot indole synthesis, which proceeds through a Heck carbonylation and a Suzuki coupling, is shown below. The reaction conditions are similar to the previous example however microwave heating is employed [174] (Scheme 6.54). [Pg.185]

There is some similarity between the cracking of petroleum and the cracking of biomass. However, biomass is more complex chemically both in terms of structrual types and functional groups. In petrochemistry, hydrocarbons are fractionated and they are then functionalized by oxidation, halogenation, nitration and other chemical processes so as to add value. The commodity chemicals are then built up into more complex molecules using such popular synthetic methods as Friedel Craft reactions, Michael and aldol condensations, and Heck and Suzuki couplings. The speciality products of these reactions are then further elaborated into formulations for use in everyday applications ranging from personal care... [Pg.19]

Under all the conditions studied, addition of bare Si02-SH to Heck or Suzuki coupling reactions using a variety of bases, aryl halides and solvents resulted in complete cessation of the catalytic activity (35). These results suggest that catalysis with this precatalyst is also associated with labile palladium species that... [Pg.197]

Aryl hydrazide-based linker 79 was developed as a traceless handle that released products under mild oxidative conditions (Scheme 42) [91]. Polymeric bound p-iodophenylhydrazide was subjected to a variety of Pd°-catalyzed coupling reactions (Heck, Suzuki, Sonogashira, and Stille). Oxidation with Cu(OAc)2 in MeOH and pyridine released the final products in 50-96% yield. [Pg.210]

Recently, Larock and coworkers used a domino Heck/Suzuki process for the synthesis of a multitude of tamoxifen analogues [48] (Scheme 6/1.20). In their approach, these authors used a three-component coupling reaction of readily available aryl iodides, internal alkynes and aryl boronic acids to give the expected tetrasubsti-tuted olefins in good yields. As an example, treatment of a mixture of phenyliodide, the alkyne 6/1-78 and phenylboronic acid with catalytic amounts of PdCl2(PhCN)2 gave 6/1-79 in 90% yield. In this process, substituted aryl iodides and heteroaromatic boronic acids may also be employed. It can be assumed that, after Pd°-cata-lyzed oxidative addition of the aryl iodide, a ds-carbopalladation of the internal alkyne takes place to form a vinylic palladium intermediate. This then reacts with the ate complex of the aryl boronic acid in a transmetalation, followed by a reductive elimination. [Pg.372]

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as fluoranthrene or Cso-fullerene are structures of great interest A straightforward entrance to analogues and partial structure, respectively, has now been developed by de Meijere and coworkers [89], using a combination of a Suzuki and a Heck-type coupling. Thus, reaction of 1,8-dibromophenanthrene 6/1-166 and obromphenylboronic acid 6/1-167 employing 20 mol% of the Pd° catalyst led to 6/1-168 and 6/1-169 in 54% yield as a Id-mixture (Scheme 6/1.45). [Pg.387]

A silver(i) complex having the heterosubstituted 3-methyl-l-(2-pyridylmethyl)imidazol-2-ylidene ligand, [Ag(carbene)2] [I/Agl2] 37, was reported, which was further reacted to give a series of palladium(n) carbene complexes that were demonstrated to be active catalysts toward Heck, Suzuki, and Sonogashira coupling reactions.87... [Pg.212]

A series of potent, linear C2-symmetric HIV-1 protease inhibitors with K, values in the nanomolar range was prepared from a diaryl bromide precursor emanating from a carbohydrate scaffold, by application of Heck, Suzuki, Stille, and cyanation reactions. Included in this series was the first reported microwave-promoted Suzuki coupling with an alkyl borane [41]. A very high-yielding Suzuki coupling is presented... [Pg.391]

Stewart and Whiting have reported a useful application of sequential Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions of a vinylborane pinacol ester with palladium catalysis to generate a tetraene (equation 147)260. [Pg.447]

Over the past decade, literally dozens of new AB2-type monomers have been reported leading to an enormously diverse array of hyperbranched structures. Some general types include poly(phenylenes) obtained by Suzuki-coupling [54, 55], poly(phenylacetylenes prepared by Heck-reaction [58], polycarbosilanes, polycarbosiloxanes [59], and polysiloxysilanes by hydrosilylation [60], poly(ether ketones) by nucleophilic aromatic substitution [61] and polyesters [62] or polyethers by polycondensations [63] or by ring opening [64]. [Pg.17]

Bergbreiter reported that poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-bound phosphine ligands (PNIPAM-resins) coordinated with the Pd(0) moieties afford efficient catalysts (46) for the Heck, Suzuki and sp-sp cross-coupling reactions (Scheme 4.30) [122]. [Pg.227]
