LLDPE by itself does not present any health-related hazard on account of its chemical inertness and low toxicity. Consequently, film, containers, and container Hds made from LLDPE are used on a large scale in food and dmg packaging. Some LLDPE grades produced with unsupported metallocene catalysts have an especially high purity due to high catalyst productivity and a low contamination level of resins with catalyst residue. FDA approved the use of film manufactured from these resins for food contact and for various medical appHcations (80). However, if LLDPE articles contain fillers, processing aids, or colorants, thek health factors must then be judged separately. [Pg.404]

Health Factors. Dextrose products are substances that are presumed to be GRAS by the FDA (21). A study of the health aspects of dextrose, fmctose, and com symps has indicated that these sweeteners are not hazardous at levels of normal human consumption with the exception of a small contribution to the formation of dental caries (22). [Pg.292]

Analysis, Specifications, and Health Factors. Methods of analysis and health aspects are the same as those for dextrose. Specifications for HES are the same as those for com symp. HES is presumed to be GRAS by the EDA (50). Health effects of fmctose are discussed elsewhere (51). [Pg.294]

After each issue outlined in the evaluation criteria has been developed for each corrective measure, the selection of the most appropriate alternative can be made. Trade-offs among health risks, environmental effects and other pertinent technical, environmental and human health factors enter into this decisionmaking process. In the RCRA context, cost is not a factor in the selection process except when two or more corrective measure alternatives are determined by EPA to provide similarly adequate levels of protection of human health and the environment. [Pg.141]

It is important that health factors are kept in proper perspective. What hazards there may be in the case of oil products are avoided or minimized by simple precautions. For work involving lubricants (including cutting fluids and process oils) the following general precautions are recommended ... [Pg.886]

Thus, ephedrine can apparently interact with other health factors that may increase the hazards of using it as a stimulant. Despite this, Bechler s widow has filed a 600 million lawsuit against the manufacturers of Xenadrine. [Pg.70]

Because an ADI is intended to account for total daily intake of the toxicant from all sources, inhalation and food intake as well as water should be accounted for when attempting to arrive at the maximum drinking water level or the adjusted ADI for drinking water at the maximum drinking water level considering only health factors. Thus, in the optimum case when such information is available, the daily uptake from air and the daily intake from food (if 100 uptake is assumed) should be subtracted from the ADI. Finally, for the determination of the acceptable drinking water concentration value, the assumption in the United States is that adults consume 2 L of water per person per day thus, the final value should be divided by a factor of 2. [Pg.679]

Q Health Factor. Some communities make it easy for people to grow old in their own home by providing services such as Meals on Wheels, home nursing care, housekeeping assistance, and so on. Retirement centers often go further. It may not be a critical factor during early retirement years, but it can become increasingly important later. In looking over the factors under consideration, does this one merit a priority check ... [Pg.297]

Recognized subjectively for sourness, cranberries have this flavor profile because of their richness in a variety of polyphenols (phenolic acids), which increase the acidity of the fruit. This characteristic is also the most probable health factor in cranberries, as phenolic acids may be... [Pg.67]

According to the WHO Health Report (2002), the deficiency of iodine is one of the most serious health factors in the world, along with iron, zinc and vitamin A deficiencies. While iodine is primarily required for thyroid hormone... [Pg.487]

Iodine deficiency is a worldwide problem and is considered as one of the worlds most serious health factors. An estimated 2 billion people of the world have inadequate iodine nutrition, and therefore are at risk of IDD, including goiter and mental retardation. [Pg.494]
