Harassment

Many organophosphorus compounds are highly toxic and frequently lethal. They have been actively developed for herbicides, pesticides and more sinister purposes such as nerve gases which disorient, harass, paralyse or kill. ... 

Forfunafely, cases of sexual discrimination and/or harassment within a mentoring relationship are extremely rare. Naturally, where either of these does occur, the impact on the mentoring relationship will be large. Not only is the mentoring relationship likely to malfimction, it is even more likely to be terminated by the victim. After having had such an experience, it is to be expected that the individual concerned will not enter into any future mentoring relationship - and if he or she does, the relationship is likely to be fairly constrained in terms of trust and openness.

The quality of life experienced by people with MCS is shaped, to a great extent, by the level of awareness of environmental health issues where they live and work. Some are recipients of workplace accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act others are harassed and ostracized at work, or fired from their jobs. Some disabled by chemical exposures in the workplace receive workers compensation the majority of chemical-illness claims are denied. Some cities, schools and other institutions have adopted fragrance-free policies and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs to reduce chemical barriers and dangers in public places others still resist despite all the prevalence studies and research indicating that MCS is a serious threat to public health. 

With the Get a Life incident I began a practice that helped me to cope with harassment. I decided that any time one of these hateful hurts was thrown at me I would treat it like manure, which happens to make things grow nicely. I wrote a letter to Julia and told her that every time I was a recipient of harassment I would send her money to help her pay for copying and mailing MCS information out to other people. So I used my painful experiences as a way to spread the word. 

Two years of uncertainty and continual harassment followed He was banned from his profession, forced to give up his studio and subjected to numerous reprisals from the authorities, yet his applications for emigration were repeatedly rejected.

As was the case with the first edition, this book is dedicated to my irreplaceable wife, Angeline, who persisted in encouraging me in this and other scientific efforts that often left little time for recreational activities.
