The P-carboline alkaloids harman [1] and pavettine [4] from the bryozoan Costaticella hastata (207) are known from numerous terrestrial plants. Still another bryozoan compound (S)-1-(l -hydroxyethyl)- P-carboline [3] is new but closely related to 1-ethyl-P-carboline [2] present in the bryozoan. It is also known from the roots of Hannoa klaineana (Simaroubaceae) (208) and 1-acetyl-P-carboline [5] from Arenaria kansuensis (Caryophyllaceae) (209). Incidentally, pavettine [4] was detected in only one collection of the bryozoan. [Pg.726]

Since then, seven more C25 quassinoids have been discovered Odyendane (215) and odyendene (216) from the Odyendea gabonensis [90], klaineanolide A (217) and B (218) from the Hannoa klaineana [61], indaquassin F (219) from the Quassia indica [80], javanicinoside E (220) isolated from the Picrasma javanica [76] and the new epimer from simarolide (221) [91],... [Pg.462]

Hannoa chlorantha and Hannoa klaineana are used in traditional medicine of Central African countries against fevers and malaria. Four stem bark extracts from H. klaineana and for quassinoids from H. chlorantha were examined in vitro against P. falciparum NF 54 [100],... [Pg.464]

Chaparrinone (226) is a major quassinoid found in the fruits of Hannoa klaineana Pierre and Engler [132]. [Pg.479]

Lumonadio et al. isolated five quassinoids from the root bark of Hannoa klaineana. Of these quassinoids, only 15-desacetyl-undulactone (70) was active against P-388 mouse lymphocytic leukemia cells and colon 38 adenocarcinoma in mice. Undulactone (71) and especially 15-0-"-D-glucopyranosyl-21-hydroxy-glaucarubolone (72) were more toxic, while 6a-tigloyloxy-glaucarubol (73) and 21-hydroxy-glaucarubolone (74) were inactive [27]. [Pg.302]

Another major indication of the Simaroubaceae also focuses on the respiratoiy system, and Ailanthus altissima, A. excelsa, A. triphysa, Brucea antidysenterica, Hannoa klaineana. Quassia africana, Q. gabonensis, and Q. undulata are prescribed in case of serious pulmonary infections (bronchitis, asthma, cough,... [Pg.3795]
