Hand needles

In manual button attaching, buttons are attached by hand with the help of a hand needle and threads using a number of running stitches. In this mechanism, buttons are attached with the help of button-attachment machines. [Pg.143]

A needled felt, on the other hand, is a fabric composed of natural, synthetic, or a combination of natural and synthetic fibers physically interlocked by the action of a needle loom with or without combination of other textile fabrics and with or without suitable combination of mechanical work, chemical action, moisture, and heat, but without weaving, knitting, stitching, thermal bonding, or adhesives (16). [Pg.153]

The two main amphibole asbestos fibers are amosite and crocidoHte, and both are hydrated siHcates of iron, magnesium, and sodium. The appearance of these fibers and of the corresponding nonfibrous amphiboles is shown in Figure 1. Although the macroscopic visual aspect of clusters of various types of asbestos fibers is similar, significant differences between chrysotile and amphiboles appear at the microscopic level. Under the electron microscope, chrysotile fibers are seen as clusters of fibrils, often entangled, suggesting loosely bonded, flexible fibrils (Fig. 2a). Amphibole fibers, on the other hand, usually appear as individual needles with a crystalline aspect (Fig. 2b). [Pg.346]

Hand and power tool cleaning is used on ships mostly for spot repair of damaged areas. Hand tools include scrapers, wire bmshes, and sanders. Electric and pneumatic power tools, which include grinders and needle guns, clean faster and more thoroughly than hand tools. Most power tools have vacuum lines coimected to collect paint debris. [Pg.365]

This dial indicator is fixed to the volute mounting adapter collar of the pump and the needle is on the shaft (Figure 14-21). The shaft should be moved radially by hand (see the arrows) up and down. Note the movement in the indicator. This is a check of the radial tolerance in the bearing. Some people use the word run out . Radial dellection causes misalignment of the rotating and stationary faces of the mechanical seal. This shortens the seal life by eausing drive pins and springs to wear and rub in relative motion. [Pg.222]

With the indicator fixed to the volute mounting collar, place the needle on the end of the shaft (Figure 14-23). Push and pull the shaft axially by hand (see the arrows). This will read the tolerance in the axial bearing. This tolerance affeets the. spring tension holding the faces together. If the play in the axial bearing is too loose, the movement can open or even crush the seal faces. [Pg.223]

Petroleum cokes, on the other hand, represent the second largest source of consumable industrial carbon in the United States. In 1992, about 2 million tons of anode coke and 250,000 tons of needle coke were used in the United States. [Pg.207]

Potassium heptafluorotantalate, K2TaF7, precipitates in the form of transparent needles. The precipitated particles must not be too fine, since fine powder usually promotes co-precipitation and adsorption of some impurities from the solution. Even niobium can be adsorbed by the surface of K2TaF7 developed during precipitation, as shown by Herak et al. [535]. On the other hand, the precipitation of large K-salt crystals should not be strived for either. Laboratory and industrial experience indicates that excessively large crystals usually contain small drops of solution trapped within the crystals. This occluded solution can remain inside of the crystal until drying and will certainly lead the hydrolysis of the material. [Pg.316]

Discard the syringe without recapping the needle. Remove your gloves and wash your hands. [Pg.439]

True. Even clean and unused needles and syringes can be dangerous in the wrong hands. A used needle and syringe can be especially dangerous as it may contain blood, bacteria, drugs or viruses. [Pg.55]

EB, a 48-year-old woman, presents to a new primary care clinic. EB s chief complaints are chronic pain of the knee and "pins and needles" and "numbness" in both hands. Over the past few years, she feels that her body has been changing. EB reports increased urinary frequency, excessive sweating, worsening headaches, an increase of two shoe sizes, and facial hair that she shaves once a week. She says that her hands have enlarged to the point that "my wedding band won t fit anymore."... [Pg.706]

A solution of 218 g. (1.12 moles) of />-nitrobenzyl acetate (p. 79) in 500 ml. of hot methanol is prepared in a 2-1. flask. To the hot solution is added 380 g. (1.43 moles) of a 15% solution of sodium hydroxide. The alkali should be added slowly at first with shaking to prevent too vigorous boiling. After standing for 5 minutes, the mixture is poured with vigorous hand stirring into 4.5 kg. of a mixture of cracked ice and water. The precipitate is collected on a Buchner funnel and recrystallized from 3 to 3.7 1. of hot water with the aid of 15 g. of Norite. The alcohol is dried at 60° to 65° in an oven for several hours and bottled (Note 1). The yield of slender, nearly colorless needles amounts to 110-121 g. (64-71%) the product melts at 92-93° (Note 2). [Pg.103]

Experiment.—On a small hand balance, having two sheets of paper counterpoised in the pans, weigh out equal quantities (about 0-5 g.) of quinone and quinol dissolve the two substances separately in warm water and mix the solutions. Magnificent green needles of quinhydrone crystallise almost at once. After some time collect them at the pump, wash with water, and dry between filter papers over calcium chloride in a non-evacuated desiccator. Boil a few of the crystals with water and smell the vapours. [Pg.314]

Figure 3.1 This painting depicts the first cow pox vaccination by Edward Jenner. The child being vaccinated is held down, while his arm is scratched with a needle containing cow pox. On the right is a milk maid who is rewrapping her hand, presumably covering the cow pox pustules from which the vaccination was taken. When crystallized from an acetone-water mixture, benzoic acid is obtained as the crystalline needles shown in Figure 1 A. On the other hand, a mixture of needles and irregular crystalline solid is obtained from methanol-water mixtures (Figure IB). From pure water, aggregates of monoclinic crystals are obtained (Figure 1C). [Pg.7]
