Axial bearings

With the indicator fixed to the volute mounting collar, place the needle on the end of the shaft (Figure 14-23). Push and pull the shaft axially by hand (see the arrows). This will read the tolerance in the axial bearing. This tolerance affeets the. spring tension holding the faces together. If the play in the axial bearing is too loose, the movement can open or even crush the seal faces. [Pg.223]

An active magnetic axial bearing consists of two stators and a rotor disk (Figure 6-4). A sensor located at the end of the shaft monitors and maintains the rotor position between the two stators. The principle of operation is the same for both axial and radial bearings any deviation from the normal position of the rotor is communicated to the electronic control system, which adjusts the electric current going to the electromagnets to correct the rotor position. [Pg.336]

The quality of the axial bearings of the two shafts in the duo-gear as well as that of the rotation angle allocation leads to tolerances and clearances in the screw profile. [Pg.28]

In order to prevent buildup of crystallizing product on the shaft, warm water is normally circulated through the shaft to ensure a clean shaft surface at all times (51-54). The warm water is normally pumped into the shaft at a point near the thmst/axial bearing assembly and exits close to the water inlet point based on the inside construction of the shaft (52). The water circulation facility is also beneficial after a temporary production stoppage, as the warm water helps to melt solidified product and, thus, facihtates the restart of the A unit. [Pg.2878]

The pressure difterence at impeller inlet and outlet will cause radial and axial hydraulic imbalance on a rotor assembly. Therefore, radial and axial bearing assemblies arc required to protect the rotor shaft from bending. [Pg.47]

For the described back-to-back gears, two axial bearings have been arranged in series. It was possible to find a mechanism that allows for any power split between several axial bearings. These mechanisms are described in detail in the international patent description. [Pg.625]

The described arrangement for axial bearings can be used not only for gears but principally for any rotating machines where high thrusts at high speeds must be... [Pg.626]

Test results. For the pinions of described back-to-back gears, the axial bearings have been designed according to the load-sharing principle (see Fig. P-54). [Pg.627]
