Guards, building security

Many schools employ security guards and have installed security equipment such as video cameras and metal detectors in the building. Police have brought in dogs to sniff out drugs, and lockers are sometimes searched randomly. The schools believe that these steps are necessary in order to maintain safety, but some students feel like they are attending a prison instead of... 

A firewall is the equivalent of security guards at the entrance to the building. Corporate firewalls are barriers that exist between an enterprise s computer networks, or intranet, and any external network. Generally, firewalls filter inbound and outbound data, provide or manage public access to requested locations, deny all services except those explicitly permitted by the system administrator, log traffic and activity through the firewall, and activate alarms as prowlers are detected. ... 

In public places like terminal, for most of the people in fire accident, the measure at their first response is to escape from the building or run away after giving warning, instead of helping to fight fire, because they think full-time security guards... 

Safety and security. A security building is located near the main entrance gate. This building will provide guard quarters, a first aid station, pace for telephone and radio communications equipment, and quarters for firemen and a fire truck. Additional security is to be provided by means of two personnel control houses one will be located at the main site entrance and one at the entrance to the exclusion area. 

Under conditions of normal use, products shall remain physically stable to the degree that they cannot present a hazard to operators or service personnel. The various tilt and tip tests are not applicable for equipment that is intended to be secured to the building before operation, as specified in the installation instructions. When stabilizing means are provided to improve stability, when doors or drawers are opened, they must be automatic. If not automatic, suitable and conspicuous markings shall be provided to caution service personnel. The physical requirements depend on the applicable product standard. Many standards are available for machine guarding and protection. ITE standard EN 60950 gives a good description... 

Generally, it is prudent to avoid working alone at the bench in a laboratory building. Individuals working in separate laboratories outside of working hours should make arrangements to check on each other periodically, or ask security guards to check on them. Experiments known to be hazardous should not be undertaken by a worker who is alone in a laboratory. Under unusually hazardous conditions, special rules may be necessary. 

Hard target—A building, piece of critical infrastmcture (i.e., dam, power plant, ntiUty company, etc.), or other commercial or noncommercial entity that has rigid security measures in place to include barriers, cameras, guards, etc. 

Layered security—A physical security approach that requires a criminal to penetrate or overcome a series of security layers before reaching the target. The layers might be perimeter barriers building or area protection with locks, CCTV, and guards and point and trap protection using safes, vaults, and sensors. 

On a positive note, most campuses in developing countries have strict entry policies, probably better than most campuses in developed countries. Students must possess valid identification, and vehicles are screened upon entry and exit. Security guards are stationed at entry gates, and roving guards patrol the buildings. It is not uncommon for military personnel to provide police and security roles.
