Group insurance

Fragmentation reactions can also be executed within the framework of the thiohydroxamate method, as illustrated in Scheme 48. Addition of acid chloride (36) to a mixture of activated allyl sulfide (37) and sodium salt (31) provides allylated product (38) in 75% yield. The activating group insures that the initial radical adds to the acceptor more rapidly than to the thiohydroxamate. Rapid fragmentation of the resulting intermediate provides the product (38) and the thiobutyl radical. This last radical propagates the chain by addition to the starting thiohydroxamate. 

There were, however, a few developments in the business and industrial sector. In 1910, Montgomery Ward Company entered into one of the earliest group insurance contracts. More physician service and industrial health plans were established in the Northwest and remote areas. In 1913, the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) formed the first union medical service. 

Payroll charges. These include paid vacations, pensions, group insurance premiums, disability pay, social security premiums, and unemployment taxes. Estimate these as 30 to 35% of the labor plus supervision expense. 

Perhaps the most important financial benefit that large employers offer to new employees is a comprehensive insurance plan. Such a plan covers the worker, his spouse, and their dependents. It provides family members with health and dental care and insures against the employee s death or dismemberment. Comprehensive group insurance does not come free to employees, buy they pay for it at lower rates than they would meet elsewhere.

Some people believe that the reason for the popularity of German safety approvals such as the GS Mark, is that approvals were mandatory in Germany. After all, over 100,000 different products bear the GS Mark (GS = Safety Tested). Approvals and marks have, however, never been mandatory by German law for the vast majority of products and machines. Their popularity is driven by expectations in the marketplace from the product users, consumer groups, insurers, and employers. These high expectations continue today in Germany and some other countries. (See chapters on Notified Bodies and Certification [Chapter 4] and the Quality and Safety Mindset [Chapter 5].)... 

In the U.S., healthcare is an industry in turmoil. Much of the turmoil is due to the complexity of the supply chain, which includes medical service providers, medical groups, insurance companies, employers, government regulators and, of course, users of healthcare services. Most people don t pay directly for healthcare services. Private companies, through their employee benefit plans, and the government, through Medicare and Medicaid, pay most of the bills. 

AlwaysCare Benefits, Inc., a group insurance provider, has launched a fully insured Safety Eyewear program as an add-on for group vision plan clients with 500 employees or more beginning January 1, 2011. Members whose employers opt to participate in this new program will be able to obtain safety eyewear in addition to either their contact lenses or normal vision-correction dress... 

Final comments It has been stated in the previous section (see Box 1) that N-phthalimido group insures a perfect P-selectivity, but is sometimes difficult to remove. Especially, such a removal is not compatible with acetates. The J.-M. Beau synthesis highlights an attractive option the use of the nonparticipating azido group, the selectivity being intrinsically insured by a clean Sn process under appropriate experimental conditions.
