Grammatical construction

The author must ensure that each of these readers (and others) can find and extract the information they need with the least possible effort. We must also bear in mind that the readers may not be native English speakers, so the grammatical construction and vocabulary should be kept as simple as possible. [Pg.296]

Rewrite the following sentences so that each one is clear and coherent. When appropriate, rephrase parts of sentences so that parallel ideas are expressed in similar grammatical constructions. [Pg.497]

Semantic elaboration That part of a compiler s front end that checks semantic rules and produces an intermediate representation for the program. Often, semantic elaboration is coupled directly to the parser, where individual actions can be triggered as specific grammatical constructs are recognized. [Pg.13]

The subject of the search is Patents for weld of cans. If you combine CAN and WELD , you will retrieve an excessive number of documents, most of which irrelevant, since grammatic constructions like can be welded will be found, too. Searching in the field Title Terms (TT) will help to solve this problem. A sensible number of approx. 1600 or 1000 documents presents a basis for further restrictions. [Pg.212]

Both novolaks and resols are prepared in similar equipment, shown dia-grammatically in Figure 23.16. The resin kettle may be constructed from copper, nickel or stainless steel where novolaks are being manufactured. Stainless steel may also be used for resols but where colour formation is unimportant the cheaper mild steel may be used. [Pg.643]

Example experiments using the previous methodologies are shown in Fig. 6.1. The major mRNA constructs described in this chapter are dia-grammatically represented in Fig. 6. IB and an example of in vitro transcribed and polyadenylated R-luc-4 sites mRNA is shown in Fig. 6.1A. In these experiments, translation of R-luc-4 sites mRNA is synergistically promoted by the physiological cap structure and the poly (A) tail (Fig. 6.1C), and full miR-dependent translational repression requires the presence of both modifications (Fig. 6.ID, Humphreys etal., 2005). (TheEMCV IRES-containing constructs are discussed later.)... [Pg.123]

Parallelism, or parallel construction, is the use of words or groups of words of equal grammatical rank. Equal grammatical rank means that words are connected only to words, phrases only to phrases, subordinate clauses only to other subordinate clauses, and sentences only to other sentences. Establish parallel construction by using coordinating conjunctions, correlative conjunctions, and correlative constructions. [Pg.46]

Absolute constructions are words, phrases, or clauses that are grammatically unconnected with the rest of the sentence in which they appear. They are sometimes called sentence modifiers because they qualify the rest of the sentence. They may occur anywhere in the sentence, and they are always set off by commas. They are not dangling modifiers. [Pg.112]

Several pathway combinations occur so frequently that they have been given a name. Most were introduced and discussed in Chapter 4 and are grouped here as a summary. These phrases in your mechanistic vocabulary are the next step toward your eventual construction of a grammatically correct mechanistic sentence. ... [Pg.197]

Having said the above, however, we must put on record the fact that the text is by no means claimed to be a verbatim account of the lectures although an impressively large proportion of the Professor s spontaneously spoken sentences stand up remarkably well, almost unchanged, in print—being, as they are, accurately grammatical and pleasingly constructed—there has inevitably been the necessity for extensive revision of the presentation. [Pg.4]

Structural linguistics deals with how langui es are built and ordered into rules for communication. This subdiscipline, a basis for scientific research, clinical studies, sociological explorations, or scholarly pursuits, focuses on how speech is physically produced. Structural linguistics involves acoustic features, the comparison of different languages, grammatical concepts, sentence construction, vocabulary function, and other analytical aspects of language. [Pg.375]

Other grammatical rules of construction m be used to interpret words within a phrase of a statute or phrases within a statute. [Pg.98]
