Grades prices

Fuel grade prices reached 42 to 44 by late summer. At these levels, many offshore customers began to shun coke purchases in favor of coal. Exports should remain soft for the remainder of the year as a result.

Metallic sodium is priced at about 15 to 20 cents/lb in quantity. Reagent grade (ACS) sodium in January 1990 cost about 35/lb. On a volume basis, it is the cheapest of all metals. 

Shipment, Stora.ge, ndPrice. Butenediol is available in unlined steel tank cars, tank trailers, and various sized dmms. Because of its relatively high freezing point, tank cars are fitted with heating coils. The 1991 U.S. bulk price of technical grade butenediol was about 5.36 /kg. 

About 85% of U.S. adipic acid production is used captively by the producer, almost totally ia the manufacture of nylon-6,6 (194). The remaining 15% is sold ia the merchant market for a large number of appHcations. These have been developed as a result of the large scale availabihty of this synthetic petrochemical commodity. Prices for 1960—1989 for standard resia-grade material have parahed raw material and energy costs (petroleum and natural gas)...

Economic Aspects. In the United States fluoroboric acid is manufactured by Atotech USA, Inc., General Chemical, C.P. Chemical Co., Fidehty Chemical Products, and Chemtech Harstan. Research quantities of reagent grade are made by Advance Research Chemical Co., Johnson-Mathey, and Ozark-Mahoning Co. The price for 48% fluoroboric acid in tmcHoad quantities in 1993 was 2.13—2.25/kg (20).

Production of NF is less than 100 t/yr in the United States. Air Products and Chemicals, Inc, is the only commercial producer in the United States. The 1992 price ranged from 400— 800/kg depending on the grade. 

High purity hexafluorozirconic acid and its salts are produced by Advance Research Chemicals of the United States, and Akita and Moritta of Japan. The technical-grade green-colored material is suppHed by Cabot Corp. of the United States. In 1993, the U.S. market for fluorozirconic acid was about 250,000 kg/yr the world market was less than 500,000 kg/yr. A principal part of this production is consumed by the wool, garment, and upholstery industries. The 1993 price varied between 2.4 to 6.6/kg depending on the quaUty and quantity required. Potassium fluorozirconate [16923-95-8], K ZrF, is commercially important the world market is about 750,000 kg/yr. The most important appHcation is as a fire-retardant material in the wool (qv) industry, for the manufacture of garments, upholstery for aeroplane industry, and children s clothes (see Flame retardants). The 1993 unit price was between 5.0 and 6.6/kg. 

Economic Aspects. Halocarbon Products Corp. is the largest producer of trifluoroacetic acid. The commercial grade is of very high purity with the main impurity being ca 0.2% water. A grade, which has a low residue specification, intended for use in protein synthesis (Biograde) is available. Other producers include Rhc ne-Poulenc and Solvay. The 1992 price was ca 15/kg. 

Modified ethylene—tetrafluoroethylene copolymers are commercially available ia a variety of physical forms (Table 6) and can be fabricated by conventional thermoplastic techniques. Commercial ETFE resias are marketed ia melt-extmded cubes, that ate sold ia 20-kg bags or 150-kg dmms. In the United States, the 1992 price was 27.9—44.2/kg, depending on volume and grade color concentrates are also available. 

Poly(vinyl fluoride) is available from Du Pont both as a resia and as transparent and pigmented films under the trademark Tedlar PVF film. Films are available ia nonoriented and oriented grade ia several tensile modifications and thicknesses, with either adherable or nonadherable release-grade surfaces. The 1992 prices ranged from 30 to 70/kg, vs 24 to 62/kg ia 1988. Prices for specially tailored films were significantly higher.

Economic Aspects. Worldwide production is of the order of 110,000 t. The selling price ranges from U.S. 2.8-4.8/kg, depending on grade and end use.
