Goal statements

Some leading use case practitioners recommend adding an explicit goal statement to a use case. In Catalysis this is taken care of by refinement. Goals can usually be described as some combination of the following. 

The goal statement is followed by specific objectives, which spell out the steps needed to accomplish the larger goal. Ideally, these objectives should pass the SAM test they should be specific (specifying what you will do and how you will... 

Examples of goal statements and specific objectives are shown in excerpts 12B-12E. The first two examples (excerpts 12B and 12G) enumerate objectives excerpt 12B lists the objectives in continuous text, while excerpt 12C presents objectives in a displayed list. The latter approach is easier to read and preferred if space permits. (Eor another example of a list, refer to the list of nine objectives in excerpt 11 A.) Note that each excerpt includes a heading, a general goal, and a list of objectives. 

Lastly, we briefly consider verb tense and voice used in move 1. Goals and objectives are commonly stated in present and/or future tense. Both active and passive voice may be used. Common tense and voice combinations are summarized in table 12.3. Personal pronouns (e.g., we, my, our) should be avoided in the opening goal statement but may be used elsewhere in move 1 ... 

At the heart of the care plan is a goal statement that specifies an expected outcome of the health care team s intervention with the patient. Think of a goal statement as what you want to happen to the patient. For example, a typical goal is that a patient will report a reduction in pain from 8 to 4 on a scale of 0 to 10 in three hours.

Creating a team charter and identifying the key personnel who will champion (mentor) the project ensures that the problem statement is clearly defined, problem/defect definitions are developed and that a written charter and deliverables for the project are established (The Process Improvement Notebook,TQLO Publication No. 97-01, n.d.). Team charters include the business case analysis such as problem and goal statements (injury and/or damage reduction), project scope,bench-marks/milestones, and the roles and responsibilities of the team. One key element in the team charter is a plan for communicating information to leadership team on the status of each stage of the project (Waddick, n.d.). 

Plan B was selected as being the most responsive to the goal statements that the transportation plan was designed to achieve.
