Chronic use has been associated with an "amotivational syndrome" characterized by loss of interest in social activities, school, work, or other goal-directed activities. Cannabis use is cited as the cause of this phenomenon, but there is no evidence to support any causal relationship. There is evidence, however, that the symptoms of the "amotivational syndrome" are secondary to depression (Musty and Kraback 1995). In contrast to ethanol, there is no evidence to support that cannabis causes an increase in violent behavior (Murray 1986). However, cannabis use may be contraindicated in those with preexisting psychiatric disturbances such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.

I have to admit that I was pretty oblivious to this when I was in graduate school. I was very goal directed—I wanted to do my work, get out, and get on with my career. I ran into my research adviser about 20 years later and he asked, Do you know how many faculty asked me about my relationship with you I was shocked because it had never even crossed my mind that his mentoring would be questioned. I think there is a real concern here, especially with male-female relationships, that many male faculty are reluctant to mentor a woman for fear of being accused inappropriately of some sort of relationship that doesn t exist. 

This section on appropriations appears to be the last section in HHPS, given the amended Table of Contents for TSCA provided in the EISA (TSCA 505(b)). However 462 of the EISA, which directly follows this amended Table of Contents, is entitled Study on Indoor Environmental Quality in Schools, a topic that would seem to fit within the language and the goals of the HHPS. but was not included by Congress.
