SLN for the topical application to the skin are made np from lipids such as glyceryl behenate (Compritol 888 ATO), glyceryl monostearate (Imwitor 900), glyceryl pahnitostearate (Precirol ATO 5), triglycerides (trimyristin, tripalmitin, tristearin), or the wax cetyl pahnitate. Nanodispersions contain 5 to 40% lipid the higher-concentrated preparations have a semisolid appearance. These nanodispersions are cosmetically acceptable as they are, whereas the fluid nanodispersions with lower lipid content shonld be incorporated into, for example, a cream that facilitates the application. [Pg.3]

FIGURE 2.6 Effect of the type of the method of preparation on morphology and particle size of lipospheres. Optical micrographs of microspheres produced by (A) melt dispersion technique and (B) solvent evaporation technique. Lipospheres were constituted of tristearin glyceryl monostearate 2 1 (w/w) and prepared in the presence of 1% polyvinyl alcohol. Bar corresponds to 292 and 162 pm in panels A and B, respectively. (C) Frequency distribution plot of microspheres produced by melt dispersion (A) and solvent evaporation ( ) technique. Data are the mean of three different microsphere batches. [Pg.12]

Elfamycin (168) is an antibiotic produced by Streptomyces lactamdurans NRRL 3802 and possesses growth promoting activity. A suitable feed additive was formulated by adding the sodium salt of efrotomycin (735 mg) in ethanol (5 ml) to corn cob grits (8.265 g) followed by solvent evaporation and a coating of the solids with 10% tristearin (glyceryl tristearate) <88SAP8706440>. [Pg.412]

The double bonds in unsaturated fatty acids will react with hydrogen to produce saturated fatty acids. For example, when hydrogen is added to glyceryl trioleate (triolein) using a nickel catalyst, the product is the saturated fat glyceryl tristearate (tristearin). [Pg.657]
