Tall oil fatty acid (TOFA) is present in the pine tree as glycerol ester and is saponified yielding the sodium salt during the pulping process. TOFA is a semidrying unsaturated fatty acid mainly composed of oleic and linoleic acid (ref. Chapter 3A,Table 3.4).The fatty acids patterns are similar to the competing soya, cottonseed, and sunflower fatty acids.
