Glycerol dehydrogenases

Novel glycerol and formaldehyde selective sensors based on pEI-Sensitive Field Effect Transistors as transducers and Glycerol Dehydrogenase and Formaldehyde Dehydrogenase as biorecognition elements have been developed. The main analytical parameters of the sensors have been investigated and will be discussed.

Since glycerol dehydrogenase contains autoxidizable thiol groups, it is nessecary to perform these reaction in an inert atmosphere antioxidants such as dithiothreitol or mercaptoethanol deactivate the enzyme at higher concentrations and should be avoided in preparative applications.
